i need something portable battery powered for my backpack vacation. so i am very curious what this thing device will look like
So if this is a tracker then who are they aiming it at? Tracker fans probably already got the M8 or the Polyend tracker.
Always room for more options.
I guess - portable, built-in mic, battery
Optimized somehow for use in the field?
And I think only a tiny handful of people have the M8 given both the price point and limited availability
People who are looking at an SP404 but want more sophisticated sequencing.
This is a brilliant point. I kept likening the form factor to a large M8, but it’s actually a really thin 404.
And some of the biggest gripes I hear about the mkII (apart from the sequencer) are the lack of a built-in mic and AAs instead of a built in rechargeable lithium-ion or something.
I will buy it for sure. I’d like something small and battery powered but I think the m8 text looks too small for my old eyes. I have the tracker and, while I don’t think it sounds anywhere as good as my Digitakt, it is really fun to use and I always come up with interesting stuff on it.
I recently became fascinated with trackers and ended up getting a Nerdseq. I did a lot of research before making my decision, weighed a lot of pros/cons in terms of how powerful each tracker platform is, what limitations you run into with memory and such, the physical experience of interacting with it, etc. etc. and I’m happy with where I landed.
At no point in my tracker search was I looking for something with fewer controls, or less power, or with a built-in mic (I’m still a little baffled that so many people are excited about this). So this product befuddles me, but I’ll be happy for all of you who are excited about it and get to enjoy it.
That said, it seems like the market it is still wide open for a real tracker that scores highly in all the above categories. To me, Nerdseq is the best tracker platform (beyond using Renoise on a computer, but even then I prefer the Nerdseq experience), but interacting with Nerdseq is still kind of fiddly (poking around at little buttons on a little screen). So yeah, just waiting for somebody make a truly badass full-size tracker and I’m in.
I love the tracker. It has been updated with a ton of features and now is a beast. I doubt that the new Voice will have battery. I guess that you’ll need a external like tracker and play.
This is one of the best answers I’ve ever read in a forum.
TBF I don’t think anyone is that excited about the built-in mic. It’s just the angle Polyend are going for here.
It’s an odd direction really, as not a single person was going “This Tracker thing you created is fine, I only wish it had a built-in mic”
I might be interested in it if its about 30% cheaper than the m8, also the fact it can be delivered to me in 24 hrs of deciding i want one is a bonus
Considering you can play NES games on the Tracker, a Mini version wouldn’t be too shabby
And don’t have two magnifying glasses strapped to their face
Yeah I really don’t get this product tbh. (If reports true).
In my experience on their GitHub, their Discord and their new ‘Backstage’ forum thing, PE Tracker users seem to want a MK2 version with 8 midi only channels, stereo samples, multi-outputs, more sampling time and a built in synth. Never saw many ppl saying they wanted/needed a smaller portable version. If portability is a thing I really have no issues using mine with a small battery pack, lasts ages.
Seems like theyve looked at the popularity/desirability of the m8 and jumped to the wrong conclusions(?)
Had my tracker for a few years and still absolutely love it, a proper MK2 version would be awesome, hopefully this isn’t the only thing they’ve been working on…
By the way in these demos I hear a spring-reverb emulation, which is something new to Tracker/Play line.
I’d love a Tracker MK2, but an alternative to M8, in which I’m interested, would be great too. In Europe the taxes to get an M8 are high…
Would be really cool if it had some kind of integration with the Tracker.
well see
