Presets names: list yours

i was checking some presets on the machines and the names of some of them made me laugh :smiley_cat: …in a good way. thought i would start this so that we could make a list of some of those you find bring some fun/memories/anything in your music making time. not sure there’s a thread already, if so @moderators could maybe merge them

i’ll start with some:

  • PadigreePal (Waldorf XT)
  • Lt. RIpley (Waldorf XT)
  • KicksYourFace (Waldorf XT)
  • Lead Free (A4)
  • Larry 79 (A4)
  • In Da Nose (A4)

SD Fuck on the Model:Cycles (sounds nothing like a snare, and we know how problematic the Snare machine is on it…)

Bought my hydrasynth recently. Randomly scrolling found one called “pandemic”. Seemed fitting. A little bummed I didn’t like the patch.

Many of mine are in-jokes, or references to my/my friends’ music.

From the Model:Cycles:

Modex 2003 - my artist name was Modex for a few years in the early 00s, and my music sounded like that
Glooms Tech - Shoutout to @glooms
Milk Crate - A reference little-scale, who makes similar music to that pattern (named after his site http://milkcrate.com.au/)
Minus One - Orange Dust used to write drum and bass under the name Minus One

BD Gabsly - dot.ay, one of the most innovative chip musicians imo… a reference to him providing beatboxed gabber kicks in a Teledildonix track
HH STTC - A reference to my STTC album, and a kind of connection to Nanoloop
SD Seb - Another reference to little-scale
SY Fenris - Maddest Kings Alive, aka Fenris from Chrism+Fenris
SY Wozzo - DJ Wozzo, aka the other half of my duo Teledildonix

I don’t use presets but I give mine only people real names.

yes, of course one can and should also list users presets/patches :control_knobs:

Here’s a few:

Bitch Shifter
Everglades Traffic Control
Suboptimal Opera
Maynard Shroom Trip
Underwater Espionage
Discrete Transistor Monks

…those are just from FieldScaper

I try to name whatever patch or preset I make something that might retrigger the vibe I was going for when first created, and possibly to inspire a song title later.

that’s a nice idea, does it usually work?

I’m intrigued what kind of vibe this could describe - something like this?

The only presets I tend to use are called INIT.

Custom patch names include:

AlienFactor
CreepBass
ChordArp0
Area54Sub
OldJuno03
StabbyMcStab
SpaceTrvl
WarpdPad
ParcadeBass
BattleDrums

Going forward I think I’ll go with the approach @chapelierfou seems to be suggesting.
SteveBrown (bass)
Miriam (strings)
OfficeWorker (drone)
etc…

I’ve only ever named a preset with something other than boring numbers or descriptions like “saw bass 12” once, and that was my first attempt at a hoover sound, which I christened Rave Benson Phillips.

No-one who isn’t British will get the reference and I can’t be arsed to explain it, so bollocks.

Sure enough, I have absolutely no idea what you’re talking about.
