Problem of saving songs A4 mk1

ok, i have got an a4 mk1 and just start making songs from it.

The problem is that when I try to load an empty song let say song 2, it is not blank. Everythings from song 1 remain and I have tried to clear song data of song 2 (the new song), song 1 will also be erased. This is quite confused and i remember that my digitone didn’t act this way…

Am I misunderstand the manual?
firmware 1.51

Current setup and issue:
Newly create project
newly created kit and saved
song 01 (erased by the a4 after cleared the song date from song 2)
song 02

I think you are confused about what a Song is. A Song is just a list of pattern numbers. If you use the same patterns for both Songs then the Songs will sound the same.

When you use the word “Song”, do you really mean a Song and not a Pattern? A Pattern can use the same Kit as another Pattern, which might cause your Patterns to sound the same. This behaviour is different from the Digitone.

oh. you know me!
this is quite different to the digitone!
so the pattern is like the song in the a4’s language? but i didnt see a list storing those pattern.
how do you store sperate “song” on your machine?
by turning on the song mode?

thanks!

No, Patterns are similar on both the Digitone and Analog Four. A Song on the Analog Four is an enhanced equivalent of a Chain on the Digitone.

It was not clear to me whether you were asking about Songs or Patterns in your first post. What did you enter into Song 01 and Song 02 in the situation that you described?

i firstly input patterns from scratch on the four trks of song01 and have it saved. then i create song 02 and found that sounds and patterns are the same which bring from the song 02. On digitone, i remember that patterns and sounds are seperated song by song and that just not happening on my a4.

after i modified or clear data on song 02, song 01’s data will be gone too.

You are getting the terminology mixed up. Try reading page 7 of the manual https://www.elektron.se/wp-content/uploads/2016/05/analog-four_manual_OS1.23.pdf

There are no songs on the Digitone (the word is not used in the manual).

One important way that the Digitone and A4mk1 differ is that on the Digitone, if you are in one pattern and change a sound on a track, it will not affect another pattern. But on the A4mk1, there is the idea of kits, and if you change a kit used by one pattern, that change will be heard in all other patterns that use the same kit. Perhaps this explains what you are hearing? But it is hard to say without more information.

thanks for all your replies
lets just ignore digitone
in my case, songs are not saving with patterns. i expect patterns are individualy saved with each songs but it seems that this not gonna happen…

how does everyone save there songs?
should I turn the song mode on and enter all the data then save to make sure patterns will not gone?

Use different patterns for different songs.

A song is part of a project. It is a way to put patterns together. Patterns are also part of a project. If you save a song and then change a pattern that contains it, you will change the song. This is all discussed in section 5 of the manual, with links to more details elsewhere in the manual.

that is what i understand too.

I mean when I create a new song, the song is supposed to be an empty song but in my situation the new created song comes with exact same patteren in every single track from the previous song, this is weird. i ve tried to clear the patterns from the new song to make some new patterns by scratch then patterns from the previous song are lost too.

by reading the replies above and the manual, i know that sounds are related to kits, thats fine with me.

Its so hard to explain…
anyway, thanks for the help

You could upload a few photos to explain.
