Recording Patterns as MIDI Clips in Ableton

sorry if this was covered in some other thread. i would like to record the midi notes of a pattern i created on the A4 via overbridge, so that i can tweak them in ableton (and re-record them later on the A4, perhaps).

is that yet possible with OB 1.0? i set up ableton like this, but i dont recieve any midi data from the running A4. im on osx 10.7.5 btw.

There is no midi out from the sequencer…

does this mean the plug-in does not support it? will it be supported in future OB releases? (sorry, i somehow lost the overview on the OB feature roadmap… ) or do you mean i did not set up ableton right?

The A4 sequencer is not a midi sequencer. It does not transmit midi. Overbridge does not change that.

A4 does not send out MIDI note data.

arrrr… right… forgot about that…

The last update does send out Midi Note data from the mini keys. So I believe if Elektron chooses to, it would not be that difficult for them to make the update so that the sequencer does as well.

I think it’s more of a marketing decision than hardware limitation.

No, I doubt this is the case. The sequencer was probably deliberately made without midi or its restrictions in mind at all. What I mean is that the sequencer data might not be something that can be easily converted into midi.

Just speculations on my part, obviously. But as a developer I can certainly see why they would take the design decision of scrapping midi support to have complete freedom in sequencer design.

Since it isn’t a midi sequencer at heart, expecting it to output midi might be a bit like expecting midi out on an analog cv sequencer. It might simply not be what it is made to do.

I would agree with you only if they didn’t already have the Ocatatrack Midi Sequencer as one of their products.

The fact that Octatrack MIDI sequencer has all the features A4 has and some A4 doesn’t (More features in song mode, better scale mode) , I highly doubt they didn’t add MIDI to A4 sequencer so that they can have complete freedom in their sequencer design.

If that was the case, I would think A4 would have more feature rich sequencer than the Octa’s sequencer.

Also A4 sends out CV data from it’s sequencer, so it doesn’t make sense that they would decide not to do the same for MIDI if they were concerned that a feature to control external gear would get in a way of having complete freedom in their sequencer design.

I thought it was due to hardware limitation but since with the last update (mini keys sending MIDI note out) , I see it’s not the case.

Hi,
this was always possible
i used the mini keys to set notes on my OT.

For some reason it never worked for me until I did the last update.

Oh FFS, not this again…

Move along if you don’t want to read it again. No need to make a worthless vulgar comment.

Hi,
i stumbled over it, more or less.

See page 48 (Midi Port Config) for details.

KEYBOARD CFG controls whether the [KEYBOARD] keys will send MIDI note data or not. When set to INT, no MIDI data will be sent.
Have fun!

You complain about seeing a post that’s been repeated yet you still want to waste time on them? Man you need to get a life. Maybe find a new hobby. I think knitting best matches your your personality.

Beats banging your head against the wall over something you obviously don’t understand, and couldn’t change even if you did.
hey, I could knit WHILE I laugh at you- multitasking!

There was no banging heads or trying to change anything from my post. Not even a complaint. Just my opinion on why I thought some features weren’t implemented.

If you have another point of view, fine. Post it like an adult. There is no need to reply with a vulgar childish comment.
