Route individual outputs through Master FX via DAW

If I route all individual tracks to the DAW pre (master) FX (disable all main mute masks) via overbridge I can add fx from my DAW to individual tracks. Now I would like to also apply the RYTM master fx to the sum of these tracks. To do this I want to route these channels back into my RYTM again via the side chain input which I can route to the master FX.

I tried to do this in Bitwig and nearly got there. I mute all tracks except for the master track. I create separate audio tracks that receive the output from these muted overbridge tracks (with audio receivers). Then I route these tracks back to the side chain input so they can be processed by the Master FX. This way I can monitor the full chain while still being able to bounce all individual instruments pre (master) FX.

The thing is somewhere down the line Bitwig(/Overbridge) does not allow me to do this. I seem to be able to select the appropriate inputs and outputs but somewhere it stops working. My guess is overbridge just doesn’t allow for this loop to occur because of the danger of overloading things.

The only workaround I found so far is to just route the audio back physically via the External Input. Only, in that way I cannot use the Distortion, only the Compressor, since this input is post distortion. Preferably I would be able to utilise both.

Maybe I am overlooking an option here. But all the other forum posts about this end up in either the advice to skip the master fx altogether or to bounce first and then apply the master fx. I’m aware of these scenario’s but since I got so close in this live routing I wonder if it is possible after all. Sorry if I missed an existing explanation elsewhere in the forum.

Did you figure it out? I’m have the same troubles

I’d love to know as well.

I’m using Ableton., but I assume the process is essentially the same. it works just fine except the latency compensation wasn’t able to sync the rest of the project up with the output of the Overbridge plugin. I assume there’s some complicated workout for this but I havent figured it out yet.

basically I routed each of the individual elements to separate tracks kick, snare, clap etc. then grouped those channels and sent back to the sidechain input 1/2 for master FX.

I had to also go into the settings on the RYTM itself and shut off all internal routing to master, including all tracks and FX. that way whatever came out of the overbridge plugin was coming from the DAW channels and not RYTM master output.

I was able to dial in distortion, and compression, and even route anything else I wanted to (other synths etc.)

I was initially happy with the result because it means I get full functionality of the RYTM in my DAW, however when trying to sync it up with other loops and other tracks in the project it was unsuccessful.

However i could see this working if you chose to process the group not in real time. which isn’t a big deal. add your individual effects and build your project, and when you are ready to bounce, you can just record out of the plugin and then re-integrate back into your project.

its probably better anyway, I think if I were to do this I would take the time to send each element individually anyway so i could dial in more distortion or less depending on the element.

if anyone figures out a latency compensation fix for this let me know. Im all ears. it just the process of sending a signal back through hardware and coming back again.

CORRECTION: If I add track delay to compensate the RYTM Plugin, it seems to sync up, but it was fairly hard to find the right number. I had to put -120ms on the RYTM plugin itself. and then everything synced up just fine. I think its safe to say this is a possibility, if you really want to do it.

It’s definitely doable!
