I never imagined a simple sample could bring all this out, from all those different creative minds.
Be patient in getting to know your machine - experimenting really helps and lets you create sounds you didn’t expect.
Sometimes, less is more. Don’t try to stuff a track with so many different sounds or samples (I tend to do that often). And let the mix breathe a little more.
For some reason my brain decided to believe that the deadline was 6pm CET not 1pm. I rushed home to upload my creation only to realise it was too late.
Well my entry was shit and rushed between a few hours spent two days ago and most of last night reworking it. This was also my third attempt in the two week time frame. BUT! This was still fun and frankly I learned more than I thought I would about my Octatrack. I never really understood how to use the comb filter so this had gone unused. But after reading up on it a bit I was able to apply that to a few tracks which resulted in some of the better sounding elements in the song.
I wish I had gone with the Machinedrum since I’m way more skilled with it than the OT but once again this was fun and educational and I am looking forward to the next Science Lab.
Since I dont like staring into the computer too much, I collected your posted tracks, as well as I could, in this playlist. Just press play, close your laptop screen and enjoy.
One thing i really loved doing in this project was learning how to use the MD to treat samples as FM synthesis as sorts. Was really cool, and you can get really awesome sounds out of it. It was a bit tedious creating chords but tye end result was worth it.
On the AR, I learned that some interesting things can happen when using samples on shared tracks, along with mutes - not quite sure what exactly, but worth investigating further!
