Sequencing a VST synth with the Digitakt

I managed to do this some time ago, but I can’t figure it out anymore.

I’d like to sequence the sound of a soft synth in Logic Pro X via the Digitakt’s sequencer and automate the individual steps though the CC Value page on the Digitakt.

Can someone explain the correct set-up for this? (MIDI or USB routing + Logic Pro X settings)

Simply select one of the midi channels, like track 9, set it to MIDI channel 1 on the src page (function and then click in the knob on the top left), and I’m not sure if it matters, but I’m using Ableton and using the Digitakt as my interface just plugged in via USB, using Asio as the driver and the USB config set to Overbridge. But using that set up, it instantly recognizes midi input from the the Digitakt on whatever VST, both sequencing and playing notes in chromatic mode.
