Hi guys! I am joining the discussion because I have Trigon-6 for 3 days now! I recorded my first impressions today. A phenomenal instrument that may seem like a modern version of the Memorymoog, but it certainly has a of Prophet soul in it. Hope you like it! Enjoy!
I wasn’t even remotely interested in this synth until I watched this video. It’s firmly out of my price range, but if I ever come into some cash I would strongly consider it.
your Trigon 6 Video is great. I just caught it in my algorithm and came here to post it
very nicely done, keep it up
I want this thing so bad now, after the breakdown in the loopop video too. wasn’t very interested before that either but the feedback and just the overall sound & design seem so luxurious
probably one of those ones i’ll never be able to justify owning though, unfortunately
this is an old post and i think i may have said this somewhere around here before, but i see the take-5 as a scaled down (in terms of voices/oscillator count), fully analog (where it counts) version of the p12. it has almost all of the same routing capabilities, mod matrix is almost identical, you can sculpt it in a very similar way and come up with the same sort of gritty animated textures that the p12 is so good at. except here, you have a beautiful rich core vco tone to work with and a nicer (imo) filter/effects/overdrive. so you’re modulating all these crazy destinations with oscillator 2 the same way you’re able to modulate oscillators with other oscillators (fm operator style) on the p12. but here its all analog (mostly)
I’ve got a P6 and OB6 (which I love) and this doesn’t offer enough to interest me. Somehow that 3rd oscillator muddies the sound and I prefer the P6 filter to the ladder filter on pads etc. Also two synths with the same polymod and mediocre effects is enough.
I have to pledge the minority here, and say that I think this is the worst sounding synth in the DSI/Sequential line currently. It’s certainly the worst within the X-6 trinity. And, I’m sorry, but that filter sounds nothing like a Moog, architecture notwithstanding.
Nope, count me out.
Cheers!
This is true! It’s also why I like it.
wow, this sounds rich, makes a very complex sound and controls look simply laid out,
maybe I ditch Super 6 and Moog Sebsequent 37 because this may cover both…
Seems like a great synth indeed! This gave me ideas to explore on the OB6 which is on my table. Similar architecture.
Seems I was the last one posting here, I come back to say that I tried this synth at superbooth and wow, I’m in love.
Amazing sound, animation, pure joy.
Someday…
Why isn’t this one getting the traction of the prophet-6 and OB-6? Just came out too late when there was too much other analog synth competition? Do people not like the sound as much? Just curious as the hype of this one is like 1% of the hype I remember the other two in the 6 series getting.
I actually think it sounds great! However, if I was going to buy one of the 6es, it would most likely be the OB due to the state variable filter. (my favorite topology) IMO there’s absolutely nothing wrong with this synth. It’s basically a question of which type of filter you like best with your VCOs between the three. I love the Moog Ladder, but I like it more in a modular or mono-synth context. Like on my Grandmother for example. The cascaded OTA four pole (Prophet 6) is a bit more interesting to my ears than a ladder, especially in the poly synth context. However, the state variable of the OB is just mwah!
It really is a question of Filter for me too. That’s why I’ve returned the Rev2 for a Take 5. Despite all the Modulations and the Dual timbrality, the Rev2 didn’t make the cut for me. On the other hand, the Take 5 has a Fantastic Filter and one of the best Cutoff knob I’ve played with.
I’m one of the few that really likes the CEM3396 / PA397 filter sound, but I agree the SSI filters in the Take 5 are definitely more interesting. Huge fan of everything SSI has done. If they made a Take 8 in desktop format, I’d snatch it up in a heartbeat. (or less)
Well, I do own an OB6 and love it passionately.
Trying the Trigon, I loved it and suspect (from just a few minutes with it) a wide palette that brings a lot for me. I loved the filter, the punch, the envelopes and modulation possibilities. Sounds rich and expansive to me.
I hear all other opinions. Mine was different
IMO it is because of customer expectations and release timing.
Had it been released before the rev 4 and the Minimoog reissue, it would have gained more attention at release point. Now it will take a bit longer to trickle through. With the desktop release I speculate that it will break through eventually. Sequential generally and luckily know their craft.
Videos have a sound that catches my ear faster than P6. It’s probably the filter. However, I already have a Matriarch for ladder-filtered chord sounds. I know it’s not the same but it’ll do. I’d likely still get a P6 and OB6 ahead of the T6. I like the directness and variety of the P6, and the syrupy thickness of the OB6.
(Not that I’ll be able to afford any of them for some time).
I’ve seen people post they’re going to buy this, so traction isn’t exactly zero.
I think that the OB6 and P6 got more hype initially because they built on their respective classic Prophet and Oberheim sounds. The Trigon is a synth that kind of gets Moogy, but it also kind of has its own thing.
I also think price comes into play. Had they keep the 6 series around $2,800, I think they sell more. But if anyone is considering a 6 series, well the P5 is the same price, and now we have the OB-X8 desktop in the same price. Sequential have crowded their own field a bit here in the $3,500 price range.
Anyways, I actually played a Trigon in a store recently. I really enjoyed it and thought it sounded great. I got some nice, searing, in-your-face sounds sounds out of it that I don’t think I could have gotten from the other 6 series. I love the interface of the 6 series, and this one is somehow a little better yet. It begs to be tweaked. Just first impressions of course, as I only spent so much time with it, but It is another great synth by Sequential.
