Shoegaze thread

Just caught this MBV interview on youtube.

Always found Bilinda to be captivating in her enigmatic way wondering what’s on her mind behind those bangs. Guess I’ll never find out…

I agree. I discovered Loveliescrushing during high school shortly after Loveless and think it’s one of the few “shoegaze” (hate that pejorative term almost as much as “emo”) albums which managed to add something new to the genera. Probably my favorite dilatant / home recorded album ever.

You’re welcome. I somehow never listened to Lush so had to look her up. Put a few tracks on a playlist to listen to today. It was nice to hear Kevin not taking a piss. Cheers!

Back in the day my band was on the edge of this stuff, with a couple of EPs produced by proto-shoegazer Pete Kemper, recording at the (somewhat legendary at the time) VHF Rugby (where the Spacemen and Chapterhouse recorded some of their stuff) and supporting the likes of Lush, Ocean Colour Scene, The Darkside, The Telescopes and Spectrum. This was us fwiw:

Here’s a few great, mostly lesser known bands that venture into shoegaze territory

Great Argentinian band to keep an eye on, I’ve listened to this session a lot (the full thing is available)

Miki wrote a great memoir last year about her time in the scene. no punches pulled

Great stuff - but also really familiar, the band name too. I might well have caught some gigs by you guys back in the day! Hang on - you weren’t living in Newport in the mid-nineties were you?

No but our singer was. Goodness knows what happened to him. Partied a bit too hard I think….

Ah, maybe that was it. Yes, I do remember some interesting nights out with him!

Kevin Shields joined Primal Scream for a bit (XTRMNTR/Evil Heat era) and they were blisteringly good. Musical, feedbacking guitars ftw

This video about Japanese shoegaze is quite good

I’ve already checked out Crystallize by Tokyo Shoegazer and I really liked it

Almost a year since I started this thread and I’ve listened to a lot of Shoegaze in recent months. However, it was only a couple of days ago that I gave MBVs Loveless a listen. It is incredible. I just had to share my enjoyment of this album with you all.

My brother in law is a part of a couple of shoegazy bands, and his solo stuff too

Perhaps a tad unorthodox, but I figured the hiphop group Dälek deserves a mention in a shoegaze thread:

Those were the ones I immediately thought about wrt guitar sounds, but my favorite track by them is Subversive Script:
