I think the metronome sound itself is too quiet. I also struggle to hear the ST metronome at max volume through headphones when I’m trying to record notes into the sequencer, and I feel like the click itself isn’t loud (or obnoxious) enough for me.

Ok, I tried the speaker (it’s a Marshall Tufton by the way) using a mono cable from one of the main outs and, lo and behold, the metronome became usable. I mean, it’s not as loud as I would prefer, but I can definitely use it on an empty pattern now if as long as I don’t turn up the overdrive to 11.
In addition, the speaker stopped being excessively bass heavy, something which has irritated me before but that I just thought was inherent in its design (people who like rock want a lot of bass).
