Step sequence with external midi keyboard

Hi there!

I’m trying to wrap my head around what’s possible with the M:C and an external midi keyboard. I would like to step sequence a chromatic pattern but holding a step’s button and pressing the key I would like to add on the keyboard doesn’t seem to work.

What would be the closest workflow to this on the M:C?

It should work in the currently active track if you are in grid recording mode, and your MIDI controller is set to the M:C’s MIDI Autochannel.
