What’s the deal with the CV stuff now? Are the guitars made in Indonesia? Didn’t they cease production of them in China? I’ve got a 50’s strat and CVC tele, both Chinese and they’re brilliant guitars imo.

Interesting, I thought the Paranormals were coming out of Indonesia, guess not. All the Classic Vibes are Indonesian-made now, I’m fairly certain.
P90s are a certain thing… a lot of dynamics, and I think the initial spike of level you get when you hit the strings is rather pronounced, more than either a single coil or humbucker.
For 100% clean I maybe prefer a trad Fender-style single coil, but for anything from a tiny bit of drive to all-out fuzz, I really like what P90s do.
Anyway, good excuse to have at least three guitars… singles, HBs and P90s.
That’s my excuse for shopping for a tele!
Yeah, I miss P90s. One of the few guitars that I’m sorry to have sold is my old Les Paul Special with P90s, very similar to the Bob Marley guitar. I love the thicker clean sound and, as you said, they sound fantastic overdriven.
I think P90s might work really well in a baritone and if not there are lots of things you can drop into a soapbar-sized routing. I would be really interested in trying out gold foil pickups or TV Jones, or possibly even a Charlie Christian-style pickup.

I haven’t seen it in person, but Fiesta Red is one of my favorite Fender colors. My coworker is lusting after that one as well. Jazzmaster pickups in a thinline sounds like a great idea to me!
What mods are you thinking? My current tele is modded quite a bit.
Not sure until (if) I get the guitar, but at a minimum locking tuners, those are the first thing that goes on every guitar I’ve ever had
Awesome. I thought I was the only one. I was just thinking that if I find a baritone (they are all sold out here in Japan), I’d probably just have the shop slap some of these on before they ship it to me. This is my current tele.
I have locking tuners on my Blade guitars. Very stable tuning. I’d like them on all my guitars too!

Are these the SD91-MGT-05M? They look good and not overly modern, which would be my issue on my Fenders (the Fender/Schaller ones just look wrong on a 50s style guitar IMHO). Tempted to grab a set of those.
B Major is tough for a newbie to guitars like me… I’m learning guitar and this is the first chord im struggling with. So im using simplified version. As soon as i got it right I thought of Coldplays Yellow. Funny how chords instantly take you to a particular song. “look at the stars…”
I’m almost sure that’s them. It’s insane, but there is no part number on the box and I couldn’t find my receipt to be 100% sure.
They are truly excellent tuners. Like you said, they keep the vintage look and they make changing strings such a breeze. Highly recommended (although they are a bit pricey). I’d definitely put the same ones on the baritone if I get it. No question.
Yeah I’m trying to decode the part numbers! Looks probably like SD91 MG-T with the 05M button and nickel finish? so SD91-MGT-05M-N I think, but everywhere seems to list them differently.
Were they a straight swap for the stock Tele tuners or did you need a bushing/adaptor?
While it’s good to practice at barre chords, you don’t need to play the high e string on those to get a full chord. A 3 string barre on the 4th fret D through b strings with you 3rd finger already makes a full BMaj chord (F#, B and D#) then just add the B in the bass, 2nd fret A string with your first finger, Robert is your father’s brother. The high e 2nd fret is just an octave of the F#, not a new note in the chord.
Cheers yes a smaller barre. I am pretty crap at the moment with that as i cant seem to get enough pressure down on the strings whilst using my other 432. But your idea i will try it cheers.
One thing it took me ages to figure, is the strength for a barre and your fretting hand in general mostly comes from your arm. The instinct is to clamp down with your thumb and then you get cramp, try and get the feeling of pulling back on the neck with your arm. I can hold a barre now without even touching the neck with my thumb.
The other biggie is the harder you strum, the harder you need to fret, so it’s good to get the feel of how softly you can strum and still get a good sound, then you can fret much lighter.
I use the wired Fishman one and a Kenton USB MIDI host mkII to convert to DIN when I need to. It’s fun as hell. Tracks quickly but not perfectly by any means and lots of interesting setup options. For a while I used it to send my low E (or E and A) to my Boog on one channel and simultaneously send all string to a polysynth on another channel.
I did some experimenting with Roland VG-99 controlling Korg M3, after I read that Animal Collective was using MIDI guitar into Korg M3 as part of their songwriting process. I think they were using the KARMA function inside the M3 too but I forgot. Here’s an old video of me using MIDI cello to trigger the KARMA . It seemed the default behavior was each string was assigned to its own MIDI channel. That’s why one or two strings triggered KARMA and certain other string(s) triggered the KARMA magic.
Sorry for the bad playing. It was barely competent enough to get the MIDI cello sold to a music teacher who expressed interest.
After I got the Octatrack I stopped my MIDI string experimentation. I’m not smart enough to explore two complicated technologies (KARMA and Octatrack) at the same time.
