Zoia is also good for getting guitar into the OT. Has a pretty good amp sim. Simple but good.

Oh, I forgot to mention the J. Mascis model. This is the one ā€œcheapā€ model that Iā€™ve consistently heard great things about. Was thinking about this before I found the Am. Pro II on sale.

Yup! Thats what I do. The simplifier is a preamp, and line level power amp simulator.

Oh yeah totally. And with a pickguard swap it wouldnā€™t be immediately identifiable if you didnā€™t want it to be. Basically itā€™s just got a really, really good neck on it, much better than youā€™d normally get on a Squier.

I think the pickups are quite a lot hotter than a normal Jazzmaster though. I heard someone say they were convinced they were actually P90s.

So I picked up a Simplifier and I clearly have no idea how to use it past the headphones. It sounds amazing but when plugging into my audio interface at line level it breaks up and distorts. Iā€™m looking for clean tone when recording.

I never had much luck recording electric and why I mostly played acoustic. Any pointers or help would be much appreciated.

In case it matters my audio interface is a SSL 2+

@Meriphew Looks amazing, you could lose yourself for hours.

Are you not clipping the input of your audio interface? Does the unwanted distortion go away when you either turn down the pedal or reduce the gain on the interface? Gain staging is as useful a tool for amazing sound as it is a pain in the ass to deal with in a studio.

I play mainly acoustic too, but for recording with electronic stuff I
always prefer electric guitar (I hate headphones while playing guitar)
I bought an Iridium some months ago which simulates the real amps quite well
but for real clean sound I prefer direct recording.
Only thing I use is a compressor with blend/mix.
An EQ can help if you want to push the sound more into acoustic.
If the sound is too dry I add just a little room in ableton.
I play flat wounds for quite some time now. I really like them.
Less noise on clean recordings, especially when fingerpicking.

Interface is not clipping, not even close actually. If I kill the gain on the Simplifier it does sound better but then I have to crank the gain on the interface. The confusing part is the headphones output sounds fine.
