Trying to recreate a bassdrone on A4MK2

Hi there,

I’m new to the A4MK2 (and synths as a whole) and a way for me to learn this device is to try and recreate the sounds that i like and/or inspire me. Hopefully I end up with some found sounds and hopefully I end up understanding it all a bit more. Currently i’m trying to recreate this bassdrone which someone made on the digitone.

Most of the movement here is created by the oscelators (Operators) and some detuning/ratio-volume-work. The rest is finetuning with filters and LFO’s for some extra movement of those filters/ratios. Simply put, and if i understand correctly.

I understand FM-synthesis is another ballgame then subtractive. But nonetheless; challange accepted. Here is the patch BASSDRONE.afsnd (619 Bytes) that i’ve made and i’ve only focused now on playing the C5 note. Thing I struggle with the most or would like to finetune: The original sound has a more direct/spiky resonance… mine is climbing up and down more slowly and isn’t pronounced as much, making it more dull. Can’t seem to dial this in.

Feel free to give some advise/direction… and if you’ve tried, thanks - and at least you have a free patch, for what it’s worth

Let’s start with a drone

Thanks. This helped in understanding it all a bit more. In stead of setting the AMP-release to INF you achieve the same here with note-length set to 64 (same as max steps). This is more controllable, so in that sense, better.
Still this approach gives me the same stuggle which i can’t seem to dial in properly. Not with the relationship between the OSC’s or with the LFO’s (which are basicly used to give te sound its movement).

So the question still stands in a way. Anyone :)?

How about asking substan - he also owns an A4:

maybe he will do a tutorial if you ask kindly (would be interested as well) - also he is on this forum

I’ve reached out to him via YouTube and he was kind enough to reply. In short, it’s a digitone thing that can’t be done on the A4 becasue of the way the synths work. I think my firts post summed it up allready. Glad it’s not me in a way.
