Whatever they are cooking in their kitchen. I don´t care if you call it lost focus or another funny line. since all those guys got fired or left or whatever you saw a shift in marketing. those product videos became more colorful and more boring and more play here and play there. In the same time price increase and a few products that are not really that kreativ because they simply recycle old stuff. But the really old stuff peaple are longing for they are not willing to add, maybe as legacy machines to the syntakt. Now they bring the Heat MK2 + FX. People seem to go crazy, it´s already sold out. They seem to try to push for Teenage Karma. Expensive Stuff, no Innovation at all. But somehow it feels this way.
If the rytm will be NO1 and the high Price should in any way reflect the capabilities of course there not only should be an Firmware Update that fixes all the Sample Stuff like the resolution.
The Pads should be Top Notch, It should have more Memory and a Card, It should have Analog and Digital Machines like Syntakt (why should the Flagship be lesser?)
And this all are in no way any dream wishes. Why should this thing be lesser capable than Syntakt given it´s mega high price. There was not that much of an Update from mk1 to mk2, so it´s dated.
But my concern is, that Elektron is not interessted in building THE NO1 Drum Machine anymore. They never really saw the need for real good pads. Sampling was a little Bonus.
one of the developers (not kristian) worked on the Syntakt and now on the Heat +
he’s stating that the technology of the Heat is now a few years old and it was time to refresh the Unit, but that could‘ve been also just a firmware update because it’s all digital.
this mindset of yeah, our product is now old let’s put the same set of components and re label the box into a new sales offensive is really boring…
this leads to the conclusion that there will be a + line for the near future…
maybe a Rytm + with LFOs AND fx block
Analog Four + with more Voices
Analog Five…
Of course…
If they really made a + or mk3 version I’d be very enthousiastic and buy instantly if it sounds equally great and they add more than the things that are ‘missing’ from the mk2 IMHO. Like the things mentioned above, like a memory card, better pads, stereo sampling, audio tracks etc.
I dont feel like we as users deserve an update to the mk2, but I feel like this amazing machine deserves an update. I use it daily as the centerpiece to my beatmaking, and it is very close to the perfect machine to me: great sound, great workflow, very inspiring functions, and enough experimental stuff to make you find new ways to make music even after years of using it. The AR feel like a flagship in that it has parts of all the other machines (sequencing, sampling, analog synthesis, analog distortion) which, in combination, make it the ultimate elektron machine in my opinion. It just has these weird things which take away from its greatness without there being a logical explanation for it.
-The pads are sensitive as hell when in mute mode, but require an abnormal (and harmfull?) amount of force when playing them. This makes it feel like it’s handicapped.
-The compressor lost its gain reduction meter in an update somehow?
-There’s multiple workarounds for finetuning sample start/end and other parameters, but you can’t just set it with the parameter itself.
-You can retrigger the filter env and the lfo, but somehow not the amp env, which seems to me to be the one you’d want to retrigger the most, as it’s the logical way to get rid of clicks.
-There’s a chromatic mode, but not a 12 level velocity mode, even though velocity can be used to modify any other parameter (including tune), so this simple function would add an enormous ammount of posibilities.
These things feel to me like missed oportunities which would make the AR a god-tier machine, and I really hope they find time to make an update for this amazing machine before they start working on a mk3 version!
Don‘t forget digital machines. The Flagship should at least compare to Syntakt capabilities in my opinion. The Rytm would really benefit.
Whatever they do I hope they put it back into a rectangular box! I have nothing against the new form factor in isolation but it kind of bugs me that they’re different to all the other boxes. I like tesselation
I am with you. Octatrack Formfactor!
It looks like a Star Trek Control Surface with those curves and the angle. Also its to bulky with the plus of real estate compared to the octatrack. And it‘s all for the Pads, which as we all know are not good. For what they are used they could be way smaller. Mk1 style.
I’d like larger pads closer together and obviously more sensitive so I don’t have to jack hammer them. Regardless a software update would be most excellent!
For me this box is perfect as is.
Yes could be better with this and that.
Specifically the sample side to be able to use slice sample and use it more easily with slice loop sample.
And add the multiple scale selection, because chromatic is not always what you need. And being able to do this change the music you produce without external keyboard attached.
So for me mostly cosmetic change in the UI which is doable. They have done such a bump of feature since day one, that if they don’t change anything, I could already say to Elektron ! Perfect job and well deserved
Hater that are not happy with current state of the machine, or look at Syntakt with hanger can look what the other company offer from V1.0 to V1.68. You can deeply look and see that it’s not that widespread in term of big features added over time : yes I look at you both Roland (mc707) and Korg (electribe2).
Elektron, when you do an update for the Rytm, I would be so happy if you could add a sample LENGTH control, instead of sample END. It could be configurable so I can switch between them on a per sound or project basis. Without the LENGTH control, the sampler is very limited for the style of music I like to make (granular IDM, glitch, ambient) and I have to basically use another sampler. My Korg Volca can do this, so why not my Elektron Rytm that I paid 10X$$$ for?
One might say, well get a Digitakt or an Octatrack. But, neither of these machines has a “direct-jump” mode for pattern switching that the Rytm has. Direct jump pattern switching is also a key feature for my style of music.
Funny, the Volca Sample has the direct jump feature too! So my little Volca box has a set of features that no Elektron box can touch? Someone please correct me if I’m wrong. I’d happily purchase the right Elektron machine that is capable of both sample length control and direct jump sequence switching.
Otherwise, I love the sound of the Analog Rythm MkII and I love what I can do with it. Keep up the good work! It’s a truly amazing instrument.
I would love to to be able to fine tune the sample start and end values! If i’m using them to kinda slice a longer sample, I can’t always get the playhead in quite the right spot.
Would love to have a zoom on the sample wave page too.
I remember saying I hated all this mk2 crap… everybody slammed me saying it is better to have development etc.
It is only a matter of time until we won’t barely ever get anything new, everything will be a mk2, mk3, etc…
It is easier then having new ideas… I hate it… synth’s are not iphones… a mk2 should be very rare and for good reason. Not three versions of a distortion/compressor box.
The worst part is that is not like they don’t have new ideas… They do this on purpose to kill the resale value of used stuff so there is less to compete with. I can’t prove that but I bet that’s what they are thinking.
killing the resale value doesn’t bother me, but if they are kind of purposely undercooking the first iterations to save money and sus the market out, that’s annoying. The MD, MNM, and OT MK1 editions are incredibly powerful and flexible and the fact that you could get those cheap after the MK2s made a lot of great music happen for producers without a lot of cash
No, they’re not.
Hence the iPhone is on its 14th iteration after 15 years and the Octatrack is still on MK2 after 13 years, the Analogs still on MK2 after 10 years.
This fucking forum…
Half of you are pissed off that they won’t release an MD MK3, and now you’re pissed off there was even a mk 2.
Because it’s bollocks.
The level of imagination required to generate these made-up power struggles between the dastardly Big Synth and the lowly, put upon masses who have no choice in life except to get steamrolled must be nothing short of amazing.
Some people aren’t happy unless they’re complaining!
Isn’t this what the note length control does in the TRIG menu? 75% of my sounds use the Note Length setting in the AMP page…thus the amp envelope is only open depending on the note length, then closes shut. Or are you needing to set the length for different reasons?
