USB Question

I have a question: can I play the Digitone by using only the Usb connection? I mean my Akai keyboard and the Digitone connected with Usb to the DAW, without any Midi cable into the Midi In of the Digitone
Would it be possible?

Some people have had success with things like o-z but host is not really supported.

The DN does not function as a USB host so unless you have a device that can function as a usb midi host in between the DN and the akai keyboard it is not possible to connect them. Common usb host people use are the kenton midi host and the iconnect boxes.

If you plug the DN usb into the computer and plug the keyboard usb into the computer, they should be able to communicate through the DAW…

NO guys, I’ve tried but it doesn’t work, unfortunately.
This is my little setup: Digitone and the Akai keyboard are both connected to the PC with Usb then the DAW is NI Maschine 2 and in the Preferences of Machine I do not see any option to send the signal to the Digitone except that via Midi Out.

I thought it was possible to send the Midi signal over the Usb to the Digitone
it seems that it’s not posssible

I don’t know about Machine but it is certainly possible to send midi to Digitone over usb, and with most daws it’s a really basic feature to route incoming usb midi out to another usb midi device…

I would think there’s something not configured appropriately either with your Digitone settings or the way your trying to make it work on Machine.

When I plug the Usb cable into the Digitone it appears in the Midi Setup page of Maschine DAW, both in Midi In and in Midi Out port too, thus it works fine.
The main hardware for the Maschine 2 DAW is my Maschine MK3 it sends data phisically to Digitone.
The problem is : how can the Maschine MK3 sends data to play the Digitone without using the Midi cables from the Maschine MK3 Midi to the Digitone Midi In? I said that because when I use regular Midi connection between the two ones everything works fine
My purpose is that to play the Digitone only by using Usb and not the Midi. I’ve tried to do that but It doesn’t work
maybe it can’t be achieved…what do you think?

In Logic you just set up an external instrument track pointing to the right port and channel, and when that track is selected in logic any incoming midi is routed to it, or you can assign it a specific channel and not need the track selected…

I’m not familiar with the Machine software or hardware, I would imagine it’d be capable of this, maybe a Machine user will chime in…

I know what you mean, I use Cubase and the porcess is the same, but in this case we are talking about virtual instruments wthin a DAW and the thing is different because the Digitone it’s not a plugin and needs to be treated in a different way, maybe I’ll need of the Overbridge to achieve what I’m looking for

When you can see the MIDI ports in your DAW then you should be also apply to route MIDI to it. No need for Overbridge. At least in Ableton Live it works by simply configuring the IN and OUTs of a MIDI track.

Just a quick “google” revealed (scroll down to “Sending MIDI Out from MASCHINE to your Hardware Device”):

The Dest config field should give you the option to select the Digitone MIDI out.
