I want to pitch bend a chord down at the end of a bar but found that the A4 can’t do polyphonic portamento. I want the pitch to bend down from the original note on trig 13 and then play the original pitch when it loops back to trig 1.
Can this be achieved using an LFO, and is this the best way to do it if so?
I’ve tried to do this using an LFO on OSCX Pitch/Freq mod, using a p-lock to set the depth on trig 13 (resetting depth to 0 on trig 1) and playing around with the SPH on a saw wav setting but I’m having trouble getting the effect I want.
Maybe easier with an envelope. Try envelope 2, set attack=0, sustain=0, release=0 and decay set to taste. Negative Envelope depth.
*Edit Positive env with decay and sustain works, negative with attack, zero decay and sustain.
With the lfo I’d try triangle in trig mode half (HLF) which plays only half of the lfo wave. Might need fine tuning with the phase parameter (SPH) - or even better exponential wave in trig mode one, also negative lfo depth.
Envelope seems like a better fit for this when I tried. Using decay I could only bend up to the original note or bend down (from higher) to the original note. To get it to bend down from the original note I increased the attack, set negative depth and increased sustain to stop it bending back up again.
It’s sounding close to what I’m after now. The only thing I’m still trying to get right is to stop the note bend afterwards. I set a p-lock on the first trig to reset env2 DST/depth/sus etc. but it’s still playing the lower/bent note after it loops (want it to play the original note when it loops).
Not sure why that happens, I’ll have to check that on my AK. Are you using an envelope shape which retriggers which each note (the env shapes with a dot)?
Maybe a retriggering env works.
You could also try a trigless trig right after the bend down which “p-locks the oscs back” (env depth locked to zero and ocs pitch locked to where you want them), or a regular p-lock on the next note with the same locks.
Also have you tried slide trigs? P-lock osc pitch and set a slide trig. Should also work, although not ideal, because slide time is fixed relatively to sequencer tempo.
I wasn’t using a retrigger shape but changing it to one didn’t solve it. No luck with the osc p-lock, I was setting this using osc1/2 TUN, is that the right place?
I’ll try the slide trigs if no joy with this, but agree that ENV seems better suited if I can get it working.
The decay would just cause a pitch down like a pitch sweep on a kick drums for as long as the decay time is set.
With an inverted envelope only decay bends up, attack bends down.
So in this case we need either positive depth with decay + sustain or negative depth with attack + sustain.
Yeah, OSC1 and OSC2 Tun, but it should work without those p-locks actually. Just thought that might lock it back into tune.
Just tried on my AK, inverted env with attack, zero decay and sustain or positive env wit decay and sustain - works perfectly, I p-lock env depth on the trig that I want to bend down from and the next trig sounds normal again.
No other locks needed.
Do you have any macros, other modulation or midi ccs that might cause that?
Thanks! Works fine after I tried with a new pattern/sound. I’d accidentally increased the note length for the bending note so it was still sounding after it looped.
