Using the Digitone with Logic X

Hi,

I just bought the the Digitone and first time using Elektron gear and loving the sound so far.

I have a couple of questions about using it with Logic X if anyone could help out.

  • Can I run the 4 synth tracks and 4 midi tracks from the digitone to separate audio tracks in Logic with USB so I can record each track separately? If so how do I set this up on both the digitone and Logic?
  • Can this be done also as a software track in Logic so I can play midi notes from Logic triggering the digitone on all 8 tracks, again only using USB? If so it would be much appreciated if someone could share how?

Thanks

You can send and receive midi over USB now but recording individual synth tracks to a DAW will not be available until Overbridge is released.

Thanks for the reply.

What is the best option for sending audio from the digitone to Logic?
Is the only option to mute tracks and to record each stereo track on its own via an audio interface?
If so how do you make sure each track is in sync without manually moving them to their correct quantize positions.

Appreciate any advice as I am not experienced with setups with external gear.

Thanks

On logic :
Go to File, project settings, sync, midi
then tick the box “send to” or “transmit to” (depending of the language setting of Logic) and choose your hardware, the digitone then (previously connected via USB)
below you have to chose the mode.
Try different mode. Some make it difficult to listen to loops properly.

Also, in project setting, audio, choose 48 kHZ, you’ll have less latency.
As well, to reduce latency, go to Logic preference (command + , ) and choose a buffer seize of 128 …

On the digitone :
go to setting, midi config, sync, and tick clock receive.
tick clock send if you want to control other gears via Midi thru…
Go back to setting, midi config, port config, input from : chose USB or USB + midi

It should be working.
I’m not sure if it’s necessary to do the last operation.

:+1: also yes, soloing tracks is the only way to record them separately right now.

Thanks for the help.

I still do not have an audio interface (My apogee firewire keeps shitting itself) and working out the best method to use the digitone, TR8 and Virus TI Snow.
I assume the above tip is with an audio interface only as I still cannot get any sound into Logic with just the USB using the above.
Thanks

Cheers Faxdoor, shame will have to wait for Overbridge and sort out a new interface.

Perhaps you can record through you r phone via a headphone adapter and send those tracks to your computer?

Might be the cheapest and most long-term effective method while, albeit unintuitive for now

Not a bad idea, thanks

What’s wrong with your apogee ? I do have one, also have a virus ti2…

It keeps dropping out intermittently, shame as it is a good sound.

However I have been using the digitone with logic X and duet just to better learn the set up.
Digitone is audio L&R out into Duet and USB connected from digitone to MAC.

I have followed your tip ML on the set up. but I cannot get Logic and digitone in sync.
I am using EXS24 tracks for the drums and wanting the digitone to slave and every time I hit play on logic the bass etc is out of sync. Any tips on this?

Has anyone got them in sync with Logic as the master?
I have changed the buffer size to 128 but still not working.

Any idea how to set logic slave to the digitone I am hoping this may work better.

I have solved the sync issue.

ML mentioned the ‘modes’ in, Sync - Midi Clock page.
This had to be set to - Pattern - Quantized clock start based on pattern length.

Thanks for the tip, getting there slowly.
