What to use Syntakt for?

Hello I do play somewhat of acidcore/tribecore(techno) and got hands on these machines:
Digitakt- for drums
Circuit OG- set up as drone machine
Circuit Mono Station- for leads/bass leads
And Syntakt which I wanna use for some FX for both Circuits… But I want to use it on more stuff and cant figure out for what… Some advices? Cheers

You could try using it by itself or sell it. You could also put it in the place of those other machines - the Syntakt could be for drums, drones, leads, and then sell one of the other things.

If you dont want to sell, and can’t figure out a use, put it in the box and set it in the closet. After time you might want to use it again.

I want to have thing dispersed across machines as much as I can so closet is no go for me

What is your artistic vision? Does your track miss something? Less is usually more

Hi and welcome. For FX the Syntakt is kind of a build-your-own Fx box. (Search for ST scenes and the St tips and tricks threads for ideas). So it could definitely add Fx to the Circuits, add extra tracks, and then send audio to DT… For me ST and ST is already a very hands-full combination, and ST is excellent for drones. I’d be looking hard at whether it makes sense to keep the old Circuit in the mix…

Hmm good idea… At least I wanted to use circuit as midi controller but cant find anywhere if it can be set to add value incrementaly…

Welcome @Faust !
Did you use Syntakt standalone a little while before integrating in in your setup ?
You’d probably find sounds you’d like.

If you don’t appreciate anything but your existing gear through it, just try AH+FX, any other fx chains…to compare…

Syntakt’s drive is particular, doesn’t suit everything imo…

For my current musical project, the Syntakt is used as the main instrument, handling drums, percussion, analog mono synths, etc.

The Digitakt is serving up anything specifically requiring samples, slicing and stretching. Things like vocal overlays, sliced drum loops, sampled percussion, etc. Plus, it has the main compressor which helps glue the sound of both the Digitakt itself and the Syntakt as an input.

The Digitakt and Syntakt are sequenced independently so I can more freely mix and match patterns from each in a live setting. However, Syntakt is the master sync device, with Digitakt following. Some do the reverse, with the Digitakt as the master. My thinking is that since my current project is centered around the Syntakt, it gets to be the driver.

My Circuit Mono Station isn’t included in my current project because the Syntakt is handling analog synth stuff just fine.

I sold my OG Circuits long ago, but for purposes of this discussion, if I find myself needing true polyphony, I’ll bring in either my Digitone or MicroMonsta2 into the project setup. If I still owned an OG Circuit and DIDN’T have the other synths, I would likely use the Circuit mainly for its 2 independent polyphonic synth engines, to supplement what I’m already doing mainly on the Syntakt and Digitakt.

Disclaimer, this is how I’M using these pieces of gear, YMMV.

That said, I feel from your description that you might not be playing to each device’s strengths. For instance, if you’re using the Syntakt as JUST an effect processor, you are missing out on a lot of drum/synth/sequencing goodness that are the main reasons for the Syntakt’s existence.

Maybe I’m misunderstanding, and you ARE using the Syntakt more fully, but only mentioned the effects usage in your post?

Thats right as you said I dont use Syntakt as much as I should… I love Digitakt and its workflow but dont wanna get rid off Mono Station for its mod matrix

I got Syntakt and Circuit OG from exchange for Deluge so iam thinking of ways of implementation

Syntakt gives you twelve tracks, and eight of them could have the paraphonic Chord machine. This gives you a lot of layering flexibility. Pick some sounds from the other instruments and add layers to them with the Syntakt - more sub to your kicks, more noise to your snares, rich basses or pads.

Get one of those MIDI processors like the Retrokits 002 or the Blokus MIDIHub and use Syntakt as a 12-note polysynth…

I’d recommend midi processors too, but in practice, 12 seems exagerated ! :content:
8 Digital machines seems more reasonable for an easy use of controls. Track 12 is really different btw.

Hmm. I wish it could be paraphonic, but you can’t play it so. Defined chords, or unison only.

Good point. I often forget.

Regarding the paraphony… you’re right, it’s limited. But if’s not quite polyphonic either and I wanted to talk “big”.

…do at least two tracks with it stand alone at first…then think about how to integrate it with the rest of ur ball park…

otherwise ur better good to go with new heat+…as szezare said…if u don’t harvest st’s synth and drum power, exchange it right away with heat+…

Octatrack makes much more sense for its effects than new Analog Heat…
Performance is key for me

I love Novation stuff (I have/had all Circuits and Bass Station II). Sadly, Syntakt made me not needing them. Check my playlist : You can use Syntakt as a monstrous analog bass synth, as a string machine à la Eminent/Solina, as analog and/or digital drum machine, make weird stabs … and all of that together to make complete tracks. Every day I find exciting things in some corner of some Syntakt machine.

Reading that you do acidcore and tribecore, you probably won‘t need polyphony anyway (and you did not mention it), and if, just program it (that‘s what i do). Try using the analog kicks (instead of a sample on the Digitakt) for example

If I had to hazard a guess for Syntakt use:

Enter a sonic metropolis with Syntakt. Analog and Digital synthesis. Drum and melody. In full fusion.

All your sound crafting, sequencing, and performance needs are fulfilled, in an all-round music mega box that fits in your lap. Syntakt is a drum specialist, full of percussive possibilities, but its four analog and eight digital tracks can be used for melody, harmony, and bass sounds too. Experience epic sounds from the past, pulling others into existence from the future.

The streets of Syntakt are never-ending, the neon lights are never-dimming, its underground is fathomless. Discover worlds within worlds. Adore now. Explore forever.

amazing what scenes and a sequencer can do for even mediocre FX, right?

The syntakt is awesome, I love tracks 9, 10, and 11 for their rich analog goodness, and have been getting a lot of mileage out out of the tone and bits machine for layering synth lines. Honestly I prefer the digitakt as a drum machine, but I welcome the syntakt’s percussion machines to sketch out songs as they are pleasingly immediate. The device really needs some compression, maybe that will come in an update or maybe I should go back to running it through the octatrack.

I mean, it may be printed on the box it ships in but the sentiment isn’t wrong. Syntakt may be the last synt I buy for a long time.

It’s up there with my other favorites as well. Absolutely love it!
