I must admit I never saw this feature. I feel like that’s a problem that could be solved by watching on a bigger display (even if that means watching the video later when you have access to said bigger display). On the creator side, I feel like you could also just frame the video closer to the thing you want to show.
At any rate, with Youtube testing features all the time, I’m not surprised some of it is contradictory. I mean, if we were to be super honest, they should cut off 4k videos altogether. That would work. I think they want to solve the issue while pissing off as few people as possible.
I think this requires a bit of a reset in our expectations as users too, and recognize that we may have been given features that should be taken back. A bit of a « because we can doesn’t mean we should » kind of situation. Jurassic Park saw it coming.
