Which monitors do you use?

for the small package they sound really good, room correction only affects the sound very little. most difficult point is that the sweet spot of the monitors is really small, so dont move while listening. larger monitors have a much wider sweet spot area.

Hello everyone,

I tend to research gear for 3 to 4 months, let it be and start over again.
The answer probably is going to be, go for the one you feel or have the most affinity with, which i agree on. Just for the peace of mind this question i guess.

Using KRK Rokit 5 G3 for about 7 years now and i am ready for upgrading my hobby to: Focal Alpha 65.

5x2.5m (16x7feetish) and some ā€œroom treatmentā€, in a hear the loudish neighbours everyday appartment.
Just canā€™t stand the sound of the krk 5ā€™s anymore.

Iā€™ve read everything a couple of times and Just for the sake of better monitors and more bass in a techno, ebm and hard techno atmosphere, am i into the right direction, for a budget kind of maxing the alpha set?

Or should iā€¦ what should i doā€¦

Thanks

What do you think the Alpha 65ā€™s will do that the Rokit G3 donā€™t?

Iā€™ve been using Adam Audio monitors for approx. 10 years now, never been tired of them. Just throwing that in.

Considering the fact that KRK monitors are said to be pretty emphasizing towards the lower frequency range, you need/want more bass in a techno situation and theyā€™re already ported, I personally would rather recommend going for some 8" speakers. Something like Yamaha HS8 or Adam T8Vā€¦both reasonably priced solid 8" monitors.

people laugh at me but i always swear by my Albaā€™s ā€¦ the top end distortion, bass puffing tones and muffled mid range range are second to noneā€¦

I guess be more clear, detailled and controlled on all levels.

Havenā€™t got a chance to listen to multiple options in real life past months.

I see a lot of People giving much love to adams.

Wondering if the monitor, size, price comparison towards the alphas is an accurate one, is it a (little) level up or exactly the same thingā€¦

also keeping the room size in mind, is 8 inch just a bit to much?

I think thatā€™s a worthy upgrade.
KRK Rokits are more fatiguing comparatively.
Focal Alpha and above are much less so.

Youā€™ll be able to work for longer periods of time without questioning what you hear. Youā€™ll be able to make instinctive mix decisions instantly rather than spending time with ultra focused listening to discern what mix changes you are making are correct or incorrect. It will be a huge workflow boost.

Keep in mind it will take some time to ā€œlearnā€ these new monitors. But that time invested will pay dividends.

6.5s would be ideal for your room size, when treated.

PSI Audio A25-m.

Had them for 10 years now from new. Good investment to be honest. Nearly sold them a few times but the sales never went through due to idiots/tire kickers/time wasters/fantasists.

If I didnā€™t own them the only other monitors Iā€™d be interested in having are a pair of JBL LSR 6328P monitors, which are more suitable to my room/listening position.

Thanks everyone!
My mind is at peace!

@AdamJay weirdly, i do recoqnize that ultra focussing, thought that was actually part of the zooming in job.

All in good time.
Iā€™ll share when ready.

on a more serious note i use mainly SENNHEISER Headphones HD6 MIX as i find them excellent for all occasionsā€¦ and some nicely priced JBL monitors that are far too loud even at mid adjustment on the back and always amaze me on how good they sound ā€¦ no subwoofers as few people own them so i find it pointless to use them to mix withā€¦ i use monitors only occasionally each week to check things and for dj sets or checking new gearā€¦ my method and thinking is ā€˜dont go over board on price or room treatmentā€™. keep it true to how the average listener will hear it but make sure you know what is what both visually and audio wise .

Not when you have better monitors!

Enjoy!

i had krk 8, and uprgraded to genelec 8330, i had the problem of the over emphasized bass with the krk , so i compensated with lower bass volume. For me the smaller ones work better. Also in a 60 sqmeter room. I always have the 7350 on.

Also read stuff about that 8 inch driver monitors (beside emphasized KRK bass) actually arenā€™t big monitorsā€¦

So 6, 7 or 8 inch will translate good in smaller rooms as well.
With no actual bass problems, etc.

Donā€™t know the exact official answer for this.

Very satisfied owner of APS Aeon.

I occasionally get tempted by Alpha 80s. But Iā€™ve read mixed views on whether theyā€™d be better in my room than my trusty Adam T7Vs (for the money, theyā€™re great) and Iā€™m yet to try them side-by-side. I think a lot of the time itā€™s better the devil you know with monitors / setup / room. So I probably wonā€™t upgrade until I change studio space.

I recently added a single Auratone for working in mono on the mids and it does help me hone things more, so Iā€™d recommend that people try that too.

Genelec 8351B / 3-way and coax!
Donā€˜t need sonarworks anymore because with the GLM measurement software I can instantly adjust the monitors (dsp inside) to my room.
Routing from DAW to monitors is fully digital, so I skip a DA/AD conversion.
You can also add sub(s) and the software is setting crossover frequency as well as phase.
The smartest setup which iā€˜ve ever had!
