Wait a sec… does it really only record post-fader/EQ/FX???
Yes. (although the FX are only present on the master)
Many feature requests on the 1010 forum for options other than this behavior
Nooooo!! I think that could be a deal breaker, so close!!
I recently watched Stimming’s black/bluebox review and since feel strong symptoms of GAS for the bluebox inside me. I want to make sure that this is not just due to my current consumption habits, but a permanent condition, before I consider buying one. Here are some concerns which might cure the GAS without losing money:
-
So, one concern would be that the sound quality might be as bad as the OTs ( ). I read here and there, that there are issues with internal noise. Are these just an artifact of the power supply not being properly separated from the power supply of the connected gear or is this a general issue?
-
What I also didn’t get so far is how the midi works. I understand that it supports external midi controllers via usb, which is awesome. But, would it be possible to make it listen to my OTs midi clock as well? Would it take also midi cc from the OT or does that work only via USB ?! And what parameters are assignable via midi? Program changes as well?
-
What about the 3.5 mm jacks? Having 6 or more of these crammed in the back seems a bit tight and I’d be concerned that this might also be a noise source? Do you go directly from the bluebox to your monitors or do you have an additional interface in between?
-
The software. Does it crash a lot? Does it feel usable? Glitches?
-
Overall: what features would you miss in the bluebox which a regular studio mixer around that price point has? Is it a hassle that it doesn’t work as an audio interface? What are the chances that they will add this feature in the future?
Thanks!
Is anyone using it with a Midi Fighter Twister? Size-wise they look like they could make a pretty great pair.

No internal noise, sound quality is awesome. Be careful with USB ground loops, noise almost always comes from here. Also, no preamp so if you go over 0db, it’s digital amp so more noise.
-
It can get midi cc and clock from USB or midi in. It has midi learn, almost everything is assignable. No PC.
-
No issues, I have all of them plugged with room to spare. No more noise because it’s 3.5mm, but all inputs are unbalanced.
-
Never had a crash, but I only use it as a mixer.
-
Nothing a regular mixer had, but I would love to see a spectrum analyzer implemented. No chance for USB audio as it requires 1.2A.
I have both, but no time to try it right now. I’ll report back if I do.
A spectrum analyzer would make it complete for me.
But in general, I’d never go back to a regular mixer. It just does so much.
Thanks for the reply, this helps a lot!
I guess the main issue with unbalanced inputs is that you get much noise with low inputs which means that if the signal is hot enough, it shouldn’t be a problem? So, in practice, this would mean, that it wouldn’t make sense to plug in a guitar, but if you’re using it mostly for synths/drum computer/sampler you should be fine?

This is pretty awesome.
I’m trying to be fine with the post-fader recording because I still really like the look of this thing so I have a probably stupid question…
Does recording a mono track post pan affect the signal? Can I just pan it back to center (or anywhere else) in the DAW like it had been panned straight down the middle in the first place?
Hope this makes sense, my brain has stopped working!
I’m not sure what you mean…
I don’t use the panning, EQ or effects on the BB. And I’m assuming you will be, like me, using the recorded stems in your daw, therefore you will be getting everything without any of the processing you could do in the BB.
Could you elaborate? I’m sorry I’m having a hard time understanding what you mean…
Sorry that was so unclear!
So for example, if I was playing live and wanted to pan a mono source, clearly the stereo main out recording would reflect this. But it would make no difference to the individual mono track that gets recorded?
That would be correct (afaik, since I haven’t tried panning anything on the BB) yes. You can then pan that mono recording however you like on the computer, which is where I personally prefer to do such things anyway.
Ah cool, thanks a lot.
Is that the way you were thinking of or was it something completely different?
Yeah that’s perfect. For some reason I wasn’t sure if the file would somehow be affected by the panning or not. But yeah as I rightly say for just recording with the intention of getting wavs inbto the DAW you can just not touch the pan and EQ.
Hmm I think I’m back on track to try the Bluebox!
This just happened: https://forum.1010music.com/forum/product-downloads/bluebox-firmware-downloads/25457-bluebox-1-1-beta#post25457
Now it’s a full fledged recorder, with proper pre fader recording and more!
Woohoo!
I like my Bluebox but I’ve certainly be keen to see where they take it and it has been quiet for a while. Yes - I bought it cos it does what I want now, but I also bought into the early adopter thing keen to go on the journey with them. I’m excited to try this new stuff out.
- Simple timeline view of recorded tracks. This is the new EDIT screen. The previous EDIT screen with the list of takes is now EDIT - B
- The ability to seek, play, and record different parts of the mix. Touch the timeline to change the position. Use the PLAY FROM control to always start from the same place.
- Punch In and Out recording
- Option for Pre Fader recording on tracks in addition to existing Post Fader mode. Look on the MAIN - B screen for this option.
- Streamlined Reverb controls with 15 different models. Press B from the FX page to select them
- Enhanced Delay algorithm with non-ping pong mode and ability to play a single echo when feedback is 0%
- Option to split stereo OUT2 into two mono effects sends (OUT2 and OUT3). This option is on the MAIN - B screen
Boom!
