Happy with it so far. But have yet to put it the test thoroughly. One thing that does confuse me a little is that the reverb has deep functionality (which I find really wonderful and it sounds impressive as well), but the delay has very few controls. There’s no dotted time division in the beat mode either. Not a big deal but the difference in control with the reverb is huge.

The EQ functionality is really great. Can customize that completely to one’s liking

Which version of the Bluebox firmware are you running? Which time divisions are actually available to you in beat mode?

Good point. Read the manual before I even got it but i see that there are a few more options for the delay in the manual. Made the wrong assumption that it came with the latest firmware.

I’ll check and update. Did have the latest manual and the deeper reverb parameters are not described in the manual unless I’m missing something :man_shrugging:t3:.

Be warned, you lose all of that Reverb control in place of reverb “presets” in the new firmwares.

They decided to simplify the reverb going forward.

Oh hm. Odd.
That’s actually pretty cool functionality.
Thanks for the heads up

Edit: think I’ll update anyway. Couple of the new features are quite nice and who knows what the future brings.

Just keep the older firmwares, I always keep a spare SD card with the older firmware and related projects just in case. It’s simple to switch back from the newest update if it changes something you don’t like.

Yeah, the new features make it so you have to update IMO.

The Reverb is fine but it’s not a Lexicon or anything. Probably better to set and forget rather than endlessly tweak.

I’m not locked in as I just got it. I’m always fond of staying with firmware updates as it most of the time improves instruments

The presets work great for me as I’m usually just lightly coating a MicroFreak sound or some other small synth that lacks effects.

Quick question.

I want to hook up my few synths and my blackbox into the Bluebox. Other than the outs for the monitors, are there enough other outs so I can route all the sounds to my Digitakt inputs AND the Blackbox Inputs for sampling or recording?

Thanks.

You get 3 stereo outs, but you could set one up as a send, and send all the other inputs from that to the digitakt input if you wanted (could send them all at once if you wanted). If i’m understanding what you are asking correctly

Yes…want to send one to my Digitakt in case i want to sample anything…and send another to my Blackbox in case I want to record my sequences or just playing from my Matrixbrute.

Perfect…thanks.

I made some FR on the BB forum, if you feel like checking them out and liking, it might help some to get implemented, nothing too wild mostly just enhancements:

Just did. Nice summery of features.

Probably a dumb question, but I somehow couldn’t find an answer online …

I would like to use the Bluebox for layering sounds/tracks. If I’m not mistaken, I can have 6 playback tracks and 6 live input tracks. So I could record track 1 from an external synth. Then I use track 1 as a playback track and record track 2 … and so on. Question is: How can I exactly sync these recordings? Or are they automatically synced via the Bluebox MIDI clock?

I think you need the Black Box for that. It is the sampler that lets you record stems and will play them back in time with MIDI.

I actually have a Blackbox right now (though I’ll return it) – it just has one input and that doesn’t fit my workflow.

Bluebox is not a live looper so that won’t work. There is a workaround where you could use the delay as a looper. But that’s only 1 loop at a time. Blackbox is indeed needed for live looping. Although it only has one input, you could choose which channel to send out of the bluebox into the blackbox, rec loop, play, choose a different channel to send to blackbox, rec loop, play etc. You can have 16 pads setup to do live looping on the blackbox. Just a matter of sending different channels from one of the outs on the bluebox to the blackbox. Pretty easy to do with a midi controller that could also act as the live loop controller.

Thanks, understood. But I’m not necessarily talking about “looping”. If I can sync a playback track with the live tracks, that’s sufficient.

Background: the playback track is already a loop (e.g. coming from the 0-Coast). So all I need is to “save” that track/loop in order to work with it later on. I’m aware that there are limitations with this workflow though.

Hello everyone,

I’m new to these forums, but this place seems super knowledgable and I’m hoping you can answer some questions. I’m a resident DJ at Meow Wolf and am thinking about getting a Bluebox. I have a Blackbox and LOVE it. Right now, my gear runs into a little Yamaha MG-06 mixer and straight into the back of the power amps into the mains.

Does the Bluebox have the power to replace the Yamaha? In other words, could I take the Bluebox straight into the power amps (with 1/8" to XLR cables of course)?

I’ve been really impressed with the Blackbox and would love to replace the Yamaha if the Bluebox is geared to serve as this type of mixer. I hope this makes sense and thank you for any help.
