Bluebox! is great and can probably serve as a solid upgrade for you.
I’ve not run into any issues using it on a variety of systems straight from the output.
Which Meow Wolf location are you at?
I am helping out with some sound design/audio theory for a similar immersive/narrative space and am a bit curious about how much, and what sorts of fun you might get up to DJing in such a “reality?” ;D
I could see a lot of great applications for bluebox within such a context.
You might want something like a Radial SB6, because the Bluebox has unbalanced outputs — it’ll also call with any hum if you end up having problems there. That said, try it without first.
I’m at the Santa Fe location. It’s a great gig. I do four hours sets (four days a week) with a mix of originals, remixes I’ve done and some sound design kind of stuff. I want to create more of that, but I’ve been too busy gigging to make more. Lol. After next weekend, I’ll have more time to create new material.
I have about 9-10 hours of material on my Blackbox now. I’d say 3/4 of the material I accompany on guitar or theremin. That being said, I really try to put my spin on what I play. Lately, I’ve been taking the isolated vocals or drums from a song and build up everything else from there. With Meow Wolf, sometimes the weirder the better.
I used to say I’m like a permanent opening band because no one is there to see me and I have to win them over. At least with an opening band, people are there to hear music. Lol.
Thank you so much for checking it out. I really appreciate it. I get discouraged but the embarassing number of view I get from anything I post. I kind of just post for fun at this point with no delusions of numerical acknowledgment or comments. So, thanks again.
This might be a stupid question but I’ll ask anyway….
Are the effects in the Bluebox routed before a send / return or after? Say I want to use the Bluebox delay but an external reverb. Which would be hit first if I’m sending the signal out to the verb and back in? It’s just a little confusing because essentially both effects, internal and external, function on sends with one going out of the box and the other staying in.
Really thinking this little box will solve all my routing issues. Just wanted to think out loud here though. I like working outside my daw as much as possible before I start mixing so my workflow would be:
Syntakt as master midi clock controlling Hydrasynth, Pulsar, modular and Bluebox transport.
All audio routes to Bluebox for monitoring and recording.
When ready to mix, record all Syntakt tracks into Logic using Overbridge and import separate tracks (hydra, pulsar, modular) recorded in Bluebox via sd card.
Can the Bluebox act as a slave for a start? I want to be able to arm the recording but activate play via the Syntakt.
That’s great to hear. I use a computer all day at work which is the reason why I want to remove it from my compositional process. This seems like it will give me some flexibility to record my jams without getting in the way
