I’m slowly making my way through the first part of the Twitch stream on YT and thought this quote was worth writing down. He’s discussing why he’d not be the best teacher and that his process is very much about exploring, listening and discovering good stuff as opposed to having some brilliant idea that he then realizes.
“A lot of people think that you have to have this kind of, you know, strong conceptual idea, that you then realize and that makes you creative. I don’t think that being creative should be the goal, actually. I think that making good work should be the goal. Quite often, just doing a lot of random shit and then noticing that something is amazing can produce better work. Just…that’s what experience has shown.”
In many cases a ‘strong conceptual idea ‘ is made up later , when someone starts to think about marketing and how to make it seem more than it actually is.
Actual thing - noodling with bleeps and a reverb
Conceptual idea for marketing purposes - an exploration of space and dimensionality
Basically I agree , its largely experimenting and noodling and editing
