A4 Feature Requests

TR style pattern play. its such an annoying thing to have to hold extra buttons to switch patterns instead of just being able to press the pattern button i’d like to switch to.

and future machines or updates would benefit ao much by having 8 bars instead of 4.

Probably speaking into the void but here are two big requests of mine anyway:

  1. configurable headphone output (MK2 and MK1)

-I’d love to be able to have the wet FX or wet FX and external inputs coming out on the headphones output while the rest of the mix comes out on the main output. Main reason is that I have my external inputs as a mixer send so if I try to use the mixer send on the A4 signal it returns to the same location and causes a feedback loop. This may be hardwired to the main outs, but if it’s done in software it could be made configurable so that people can set up their fx on a separate channel or send ch 1 out on a separate channel. It’s not individual outs like the MK2 but it’d make the mk1 way more flexible.

  1. Performance macro mute (MK1)

There’s no dedicated button for this feature like in the mk2 but i’m sure one could be devised.

+1
ratchet, p-lockable cc, midi arp.

It’s 2020 c’mon.

Here’s a couple

  1. Support for a sustain pedal.
  2. Locking of multi map trigs in grid record mode.
  3. Record velocity in grid record mode

Implement a midi CC dump request like on the OT (CC61) will be great !

  • Have external midi messages triggering kit and pattern reloads (on all Elektron boxes). This way, you could easily reset your performance across all devices at the same time rather than trying to perform some advanced six-fingered maneuver in perfect sync on all of them at the same time.

  • Make it so that you can change the length of a note by holding it down and pressing another, empty trigger, just like you can do on the OP-Z. As of now, there no easily way to quickly edit the length of notes.

  • Randomizing pages for single triggers by holding them down and then pressing the page and yes. This would be a quick way to introduce extra, unpredictable variation in your track.

I just remembered now that the Analog 4 does not do MIDI arp :(. Another thing I’m missing from my OT trade.

  • Implement MIDI output of arpeggiator.

I’m sure Digitone users would love this feature as well. Hopefully in the next juicy update Elektron does. They’ve added so much with their updates lately it’s like getting a new synth! (almost)

ARP START OFFSET

Currently, existing arp sequence can only be shortened from the right side. I would like to be able to shorten it from the left side as well - i.e. select only steps 4-16 or steps 4-8.

Don‘t know if someone brought this up before, but this one would be really helpful to me:

Start and stop the metronome by holding „yes“+tempo or „no“+tempo.

COPY-PASTE LFO 1/2 TO LFO 2/2

Very frequently, I’m happy with LFO 1/2 modulations and create additional LFO 2/2 modulations only to find out, that I want to modulate those on the LFO 2/2 page. I cannot do that - neither with LFO 1/2 nor ENV3. Therefore it would be great if it was possible to copy LFO 1/2 to LFO 2/2 page rather than having to manually recreate 4 LFOs.

Voice handling that was more like the digitone would be a nice improvement :+1:
If can be done that is. Maybe not possible at this stage.?

Eg. the digitone can play a 4 note chord on track one and all 4 voices will play on that track…
Where as if the analog 4 plays a 4 note chord the voices are split over the 4 tracks…
Digitone way is better for overbridge and more flexible for assignment of voices to tracks

You’re just using the wrong settings, the A4 can play 4 notes on one track, you just have to allocate them properly.

No don’t think so…
I’m talking about Overbridge…

one track on the AF can play all the voices but the audio still gets split into the 4 different audio tracks…

Digitone can play all voices audio out 1 track and is more advanced how it handles the voices locking them allocating them etc

MIDI PAGES! Why does A4 doesn’t have a dedicated MIDI control pages like DN DT or OT has… it would be brilliant. It could give a full control over an external synth. I know we can use midi sequencer, but we cannot send MIDI cc to external synth currently like other electron boxes can do.

The idea is to have either 8 separate MIDI pages under arp note OSC OSC2 fltr amp enc LFO or 4 MIDI control pages in T1 T2 T3 T4 (DN style). With 10 knobs on each page for CC controlling and plocking external synth it would be an awesome addition! Is it possible to implement this with just firmware updates or cannot be done because of the way A4 is designed?

The problem is Digtione is Digital 8 voice. the A4 is Analog Mono voices being poly chained so technically your Voice allocation is just stealing the physical voices from the other tracks Digiton doesn’t have this issue because it’s all code.

It was never meant to sequence external gear. To this day it’s not sold as a sequencer it just has the ability to double the midi that the internal tracks use to the midi out port. That’s as good as it’s likely to get.

Yup, many features were unavailable before firmware upgrades so I thought that can be a good one to request

I find the “Swing” limiting, specifically having one global number 50-75 that applies to 1/16th notes.

It would be nice if it functioned similar to the “Accent” feature where it lights up a bunch of trigs which I can then select and use a microtiming to move it around. I.e. make a beat come a bit early, swung 1/8th notes. I would like to use it more as a groove template to create some push/pull within a measure.

Yeah, would be cool, Octatrack can do that with its swing trigs (swing applied only to activated trigs). Powerful feature.

Just tested with my AK. Seems the only way to get all voices of a poly track to output on one single track in the daw is through the master output of the OB plugin.
