They’ve outsourced most of the manufacturing to a couple of plants in Latvia now, but they still do all the designing, testing, some of the assembly and all the marketing between just a few people.
They’re basically a boutique company that has found a way to make high quality products in relatively high volumes.
Received the shipping order today. Super stoked. Hope it’s not to controversial but wanted to share this with you nauts. I ordered a bit later then some here but due to the contact I have with them and because of the content i’d create with it regardless when I got it, they bumped the shipping date a bit (ordered the 16th of june).
I don’t think I’ve ever been this exited for any instrument in my life.
I heard an interview with the Erica Synths guy (I think his name is Gerts) and he was talking about keeping all manufacturing in Latvia – this is pure speculation, but I imagine they could have kept costs down if they manufactured somewhere else, like some of usual the Asian countries where synths are often made. I personally think it’s great that they’re keeping that work in Latvia.
I imagine all of the usual supply chain issues these days contribute to the price as well. Everything is so ridiculous. Plus inflation…
Anyhow, it’s a boutique instrument with a boutique pricetag. There’s nothing else like it on the market, so the price is the price.
I might eventually get one, but I need to make room. Plus, I’m not really into the idea of ordering it and having no idea when it arrives, because with my luck I’ll be out of the country or something when it lands on my doorstep!
All the demos ive seen are Techno. Great wonderful. But is that all this is for. Could it be used for other genres including Hip Hop,Synthpop, Ambient.? I would like to see the versatility.
I think almost every instrument builder has something in their head while creating a new instrument. This can be a genre, a mission or just a philosophy. But the players, artists, musicians give the real meaning to it. So it depends how you use it. You can probably make Ambient, Synthpop or whatever with it if you’d try it.
Seriously, don’t take demos too seriously. They should help you to hear the character of an instrument, nothing more. Does it sound good for you? Do you hear your sound in it? Do you like the workflow/interface? They’re more important questions to ask. But of course, it’s just my opinion.
Yeah, I also don’t think it’s exclusive to techno. The Kodek demo at Superbooth ( https://youtu.be/H4hZ83wizsA ) wasn’t techno, and it sounded good – I don’t even know what genre that is… Some kind of 160-ish bpm halftime thing? It almost reminded me of dubstep, but faster.
I think the FX sends make it ridiculously flexible too.
Personally I would probably not make techno with it. I’d likely be making stuff like breakbeats on it if I had one. That sequencer just seems to interesting for 4 on the floor to me.
Yeah with all the sequencer options right under your fingertips (fww/bw/rand, track length etc ) it will be easy to do different stuff then just 4/4 techno. Think this will be a great instrument for off beat techno as well. Also looking forward to explore drones.
