I think each pattern has a master length, which is just a multiple of its 16 steps.
So master length of 32 on pattern 1 + master length of 48 on pattern 2 when chained together will play pattern 1 twice and then pattern 2 three times, then loop.
Works for me. As much as the perkons tempts me I’d have to give one of the other machines up and not ready to do that. So much to learn in the pulsar, and Modor are good with updates for the DR2 - sequencer update is coming I expect.
Awesome setup!
The decision between the Perkons and Pulsar-23 will more than likely be an either/or selection for me as well. I might start selling off some gear that is not used very often, which could lead to eventually own both instruments. Until I cross that bridge over the next few months, the DR-2 will be nicely paired with an AR MKII.
First track sounds like Knight Rider the classic tv show…
Yeah Loopops video on the Syntrx was also very underwhelming, I just don’t think his results are very good with synths that really rely on really deep interaction between all the elements vs a feature list where each feature more or less stands on its own.
I find his videos good if I want to reference something, like looking in the index of a manual. I can’t watch an entire video of his. I get sleepy, though I do respect the amount of time and thought he puts into his channel. That said, his video on Steve Reich-like phasing using the Digitakt was one of my faves of any influencer. A bit of an “a-ha” moment for me.
Yeah, that was a really interesting use of the Digitakt. More musically inspiring than his review videos for sure. I went and did a few loops like that afterwards
Serious question - are you happy with the hats given how we all feel about those magic 909 sounds?
Yeah, they sound really good. The sampled ones especially, they sound great.
Not particularly 909 sounding, but they scratch a similar itch.
Agree, i think its best to look at his review of perkons and others as more of a live manual than a performance testing the boundries of the particular machine.
Either way, I wanna get my hands on a perkons to try one out. A bit too rich for my blood until my wife is done with school, but id love a first hand test drive
Well if you’re ever near Loughborough you can have a go on mine.
Lol, how close is that to Everett, Wa.?
I mean, cosmically speaking, we’re basically neighbours.
Sounds good, ill head over after work, just make sure to have a candle burning in a ring of salt so i have good beacon to follow
Ok, this thing is really good.
Just Perkons, with a tiny bit of compression and an even tinier bit of dark reverb on the master.
FFS. Sounds so damn good.
Yeah.
The thing that puts me off a lot of drum synths is the amount of work it takes to get everything sounding right and well mixed (AR, I’m looking at you).
Not the case with Perkons, it sounds great straight from the output, very little effort required.
It doesn’t half fill up a mix though, so might present a few challenges mixing into a wider setup. Time will tell I guess.
I was just reading your thread about the 909 hats and it got me thinking about how some sounds just fucking work and still it’s so difficult to pin down the exact reasons why.
The Perkons does just that. It’s undeniable.
Also the limitations that it has, I don’t know if the stuff ppl get out of it would be better with the filter env and all the other stuff everyone is accustomed by now.
It’s clearly an instrument and it seems that it’s because of those limitations combined with that incredible sound. Simplicity at its finest.
Yeah, there’s a lot of things that when I look at it I think “it’d be cool if it had resonance control or filter envelopes or whatever”, but once I start playing it I completely stop giving a shit about all that.
That kick knocks like Jack Nicholson too.
