Food Thread!

Not especially, there are so many methods, and as many are valid.
You do well to be suspicious but something tells me that if your tomatoes turn you will notice it when you open it. Anyway if in doubt, throw it away, it’s not worth it.
I think I’ve seen discussions here about different methods right here.
Next year we try sauerkraut.

Home made Deep dish last weekend

Yesterday we smoked 8 lbs of pork butt. 9 hours on the smoker. Melt in your mouth.

Do you like or have you tried Thai desserts? There is a Thai grocery store not far from me that makes a bunch of them and today I bought this one that’s black sticky rice with some custard on top. WOW. This stuff is amazing. Took me a minute to realize that it tastes a bit like Cap’n Crunch! I’m not going to bother trying to make it but I found a recipe that is posted below. Another good thing about these Thai desserts is that none that I have tried had any gluten in them if that’s a concern…or cholesterol from what I can gather.

Today they also had something with “Job’s Tears” in it which looked a bit like blackeye peas but looking now is actually some sort of cereal like millet. I don’t like the idea or the look of those Thai desserts made with beans but some of those are rather tasty too…

I buy Black Sticky Rice for my wife every few weeks…I dont get it.

Tried something called Thai Toast at a local Thai restaurant. There was a choice of several variations - I picked pandan. I thought it went great with their spicy cocktail.

No idea about the authenticity. Haven’t seen Thai toast/Thai french toast on a menu anywhere else.

love love love Thai food in general. One of my favorite types of food.

To be honest I like Thai food but don’t love it. Often it’s too spicy for me but I do love Thai desserts!

The spiciness is one of my favorite things about Thai food. There are also a ton of good Thai places here in LA; tons of good Asian and Asian-inspired cuisine here in Socal in general.

This thread is making me hungry

Asian food from my limited experience is so much better in LA than NYC. I had such a great meal there at a simple Taiwanese restaurant. When it comes to southeast Asia specifically I like Vietnamese much more than Thai. Fortunately, Philadelphia has some decent Vietnamese places as all the ones I’ve been to here are trash!

Having lived in both NYC and LA, I totally agree! The food in LA is pretty amazing all around, if you know where to look.

I imagine that the year round growing season there makes a huge difference. It’s not that NYC doesn’t have a lot of great restaurants but most are pretty mediocre for the price even if you know where to look… NJ has much better Indian food than NYC btw.

Literally no need to participate if you don’t want to, friend. This is a friendly place; synth talk or not.

Joe’s Shanghai is top tier NYC Chinese.

My recollection is that the SE Asian food is better in OC than LA, but I try to avoid SoCal. Suburban Seattle (Bellevue) is much pan-Asian better than SF Bay Area. Chicago, surprisingly, tops them all.

Be sure to ask for the English translation of the Chinese menu, ideally bring someone who can read Chinese.

Asian deserts in general are great. Not as oppressively sweet as western deserts.

I don’t eat such things anymore but I fucking loved those sweet Thai sausages… the idea of fried rice without it is just depressing.

Not sure how authentic it is, but I used to order the deep fried banana from our local Thai restaurant. Pretty decent.
