I imagine knitting forums have people complaining about the quality of new needles, not like when they were young with a belt full of onions (which was the style at the time…)
Is it me or is this thread/place starting to sound like a Mac vs PC debate circa 2010?
There’s always been a lot of criticism VS praising on each Elektron release since as far as I’ve been on this forum, but the amount of “bouhou people are mean” “things have changed” is getting out of control at an astonishing rate, I choose to see this as hilarious.
But it’s really telling a lot more about nowadays relationship between people, their keyboards, and the emotional input from the screen, than any Elektron product. There is more backlash about backlash than actual heated conversation (which are, let’s be honest, totally fine, we’re all passionate about music technology here).
I think Elektronauts is still a fine place, don’t worry in about a week it’ll be back to the good ol’ vibe
Please no. I wasn’t on this board, but those were bad times everywhere. This isn’t that as far as I can see.
I hope you’re right and it doesn’t completely devolve into that but there seems to be a lot of familiar similarities at the moment. That said this is my favorite place on the webs, good people all around.
i like my A4 and OP-1 and pay little attention to what else is happening since
(to positive and negative ends. i like some PO’s, would get an OP-Z if not for build quality murmurs, would never get a TX-6, almost got a digitone, decided cycles was not for me, think the syntakt looks p cool at a glance)
are the same people complaining when an artist releases an album that doesn’t gel with them as much as previous ones?
all you fan boys are like omg rootes motors just dropped a new product. not very innovative, imo. four tires. seen that one before. some car of the future.
I think this is gonna pass. It’s inevitable with the build up before the release. I’m sure there were lots of expectations not met.
I can’t judge. I’m new to Elektron. I’ve got a DT and MS. This is exactly what I wanted.
A trigless moan mayhaps?
On a real note though I do wish people could focus on the positives. There is plenty of negative stuff on the web. It’s not unique to be negative.
Bringing up a hardware failure issue or a software bug is different.
I wish we could just be happy new gear is coming out even if it doesn’t mean it’s something we want.
What’s odd to me is how much backlash both Elektron and Teenage Engineering get for their new products. It’s as if every new product is expected to cater to everyone. Every feature on a wish list with ultra low prices. If a new machine is not your thing, cool, there are other manufacturers out there. But to act personally offended as if they went of their way to upset people is odd, rather than just make new things some people may like. It’s kind of like expecting every item on a restaurant menu to be something you love.
Hey mam. I feel you. Sometimes the moans are deafening and other times it seems there has been a rise in “know it all gate keepers”. Just remember we tend to amplify the negativity and it can overshadow the positive elements. For instance, the “view from your window” thread was top tier. Don’t forget the one about Syntakt and how fun that was. Also in terms of Behringer related announcements, the laughs per post are a little higher than other music related sights. Hey you enjoy that Syntakt and realish in the good times.
Edit: I largely responded to see if I’ve been muted.
i took a day off after all that too. i was kind of shocked by the negative comments. not because i didnt think they would happen no matter what, but because they gave us a perfect amalgamation of what every single person in the trademark speculation thread was asking for. the only thing they could have done better to satiate users on this forum is create an octa mk3
No, this isn’t accurate for everyone complaining
Personally I’m not looking for them to give me my dream machine
I’m just asking for more orthogonality across devices
They should all have more of a common feature set, not just “the famous Elektron sequencer”
At least, the flagships should all have song mode, and in my opinion, sampling.
But even the non-flagships should have a few more basic features as a baseline
Namely:
- Save chain
- Polyphony
- Multi Map
And probably a few more.
All this stuff could be put in menus.
And in my opinion there ought to be one template for flagships and all they do is change the performance controls and synth engine. All flagships should sample for instance. Like they way all MPC’s do the same basic stuff but play around with extras. Elektron plays around with features that for many people are essentials, making purchasing decisions harder.
I thought you were talking about the American Football fans, like the band, and I was really confused for a second
I’m much more optimistic now, but my initial reaction was quite negative. I’ve never had a negative response to any newly announced Elektron device before. I think it’s because this is the first Elektron product that feels like it doesn’t bring much new to the table
In recent memory
Digitakt - new form factor, a lot of changes and refinements to the elektron workflow. Super high resolution on the sample engine.
Digitone - new FM synth engine with a lot of cool ideas to make FM less daunting.
Model:Samples - new form factor. Lots of hands on control. Cool and fun lower budget device.
Model:Cycles - 6 machines, FM based but very distinct difference in sound from the Digitone.
Syntakt - The rytms BD engines, cymbal engine and a model cycles inside the digitakt case.
Of course there’s quite a few new ideas here like the modifiers, the routable master FX and a handful of new machines. Some of the old machines have also been refined. Additionally its only version 1.0 so who knows what kind of machines it’ll have a few years down the line? But I hope that explains why I was being a negative Nancy
That storage strategy approach appears highly risky. Such critical supplies should be stored at the point of use, incase of “complications”.
Without seeing the data from any sort of surveys that Elektron has done, are we really sure exactly what’s considered essentials for a wide cohort of users? Without that, I myself am not confident in saying what is essentials for the majority or what is just anecdotally assumed to be.
Ok, you may not be looking for them to give you a dream machine, but it does sound at least like a dream setup of devices overall. The way I look at it, and yes it’s just my opinion, is that Elektron is making decisions based on their mission and journey so far. With that in mind, we’re going to see them make choices we may not agree with. Just like pretty much every music manufacturer.
Akai is 76 years old, they’ve had time to really crystallize their process. Elektron is 24 years old, and for being a company a 1/3 of the time Akai has been around, they’re doing a pretty stellar job. Also, as far as I can see online, the Syntakt preorders are sold out pretty much everywhere. So Elektron’s choices with this new machine, paid off so far.
I like to live on the edge.
I’m a commando guy too.
I used to live that way, once…. Then one day in a dire moment of need all that could be found was some cardboard left over from some IKEA flat pack build… (almost literally) scarred for life.
It may not bring much new to the table, although not entirely sure as I have yet to try one, but sometimes a new device that’s just an evolution or combination of previous devices maybe be exactly what some folks are lookin for.
