i understand this. im of two minds. it does feel like a cycles + rytm in a digi box. one the other hand; it feels like a machinedrum (kind of), digitone, rytm, a4 (kind of), with fx routing, analog machines and other analog components, wavetable/physical modelling/fm/analog/va synthesisall packed into a digi format; just like most people wanted. its like the crawled the syntakt speculation thread for keywords and wrote down a list of the most mentioned ones and packed as many of those into this machine as possible
for me, i would have preferred any brand new synth engine in any format of elektron box, and this is a pretty limited version of that. the last thing i wanted/needed was a drum machine. but i actually see this as the ultimate all-in-one groovebox. my favorite thing is taking an elektron machine on its own, away from my computer, and making the most out of it. i love working with limitations and composing by extracting the most power from one piece of hardware by getting as creative as possible, and elektron is the best for that. and this box has the most versatile options packed into one. no other box has analog + digital, no other box combines digital and analog filters, something i suggested long ago in some octa mk3 conversation because i love the octa & digitakt filters as well as the rytm & a4 filters, and has the scale modes, number of usable tracks with melodic options, and this crazy fx routing and p lockable modifiers/scenes with pretty exciting midi routing/loopback potential
i am all in on this one. and like most elektron boxes, i think that the new options, and even old options in a new format, are going to lead to new sounds and even new types of music.
Absolutely! I just haven’t seen Elektron do it before and it’s the reason I was initially underwhelmed. I was expecting a new sound engine or something.
If I wanted to get a drum synth again I’d get an ST over the Rytm. I’ve always hoped they’d add digital machines to the Rytm to be honest.
I think that’s the trickiest part of making products. That balance between making something that interests the legacy users, and one that will also draw in new users. It makes sense to cater sometimes to the acquiring new users as they’re a strong part of a solid growth strategy.
I had the RYTM a while back, didn’t work with me too much, but the Syntakt is like a perfect blend of the parts I liked about the RYTM and Model:Cycles in the case I liked best.
I get what you’re saying I just don’t get why discussing something critically is equated to negativity. That automatism gives me a bit of a Cochella-Manifestation-Autohypnosis vibe and I think it’s reeeeeally unhealthy and also dishonest at heart.
I get that you’re not suggesting that we should all pretend we’re good, rather focus on the positives, which I think is good advice. And I do acknowledge that there were some posts across the plethora of threads that could be considered negative at heart, but mostly I’ve been seeing people discuss their disappointment in a rather open and vulnerable manner (and in doing so actually find the good in this release and the discussion) and/or discuss the product critically (next to lots of praise for the Syntakt also, actually).
It’s disconcerting to me that the terms “complaining” and “negativity” are probably the most used words in Syntakt threads atm, reminds me of my basketball career where coaches would tell us to “stop making excuses” in situations where players would legit be incapacitated due to injury.
What is more, eg in this thread, the last 60-80 posts were exactly this discussion, and yet new contributions flow into this thread at post 300+ and just repeat that whole “negativity/complaining/moaning” thing which makes the wheel go round and is in its own right a proper, unsolicited form of moaning and negativity.
I haven’t seen many if any such posts across the Syntakt threads I’ve been reading. I have however seen people discuss their expectations, disappointments, likes and dislikes of the new product release as well as the implications of the current release and its release strategy on Elektron’s company & product strategy going forward. Nothing in that suggests that people expect every feature at no cost or an entirely pleasing menu. It’s more like people discussing the menu and which dishes they like or dislike. If that gets the restaurant owner upset or gives them the vibe that its loyal paying customers are ungrateful, entitled meanies, well so be it.
This whole thread is more an attack on Freedom of speech. If you want to moan then go ahead. If you want to gush go ahead.
But do not try to put gaffer tape on people because your on team a or team b.
Constructive criticism, as you described is great, it’s the destructive for no other purpose than negativity that’s exhausting. And to be fair, it’s more present off this board and more on social media that I’ve seen.
Isn’t this simply the obvious pattern of a new release?
Companies build up hype, consumers hype up each other, everyone gets their hopes up in their own fantasy safe space. “What if it could A or what if it could B, maybe it’s C then I could D!”. It’s all part of the dance, eventually when release time comes, our minds have settled on a concept or idea that would fit our personal need the most and aligns somewhat with the leaks.
And oh my, it turns out to be E! Dreams are crushed, hearts are broken and the long built emotion erupts. Some people cheer, some people feel betrayed. They channel the betrayal towards the most obvious culprit, the company/the community but when we look closely is it our minds who crafted this cunning narrative.
What I’m trying to say is. It’s all good, emotions are there to flow, all that matters is to be mindful of where those feeling come from, channel them and take residence
This! I think this is at the core of “the divide” atm!
If I never owned an Octatrack and if I weren’t familiar with its magic and limitations that could be improved upon, the Syntakt would be a magical device to me.
This way I was initially frustrated with yet another release that doesn’t serve that “big box” itch.
Newer users or users less enarmoured with their big boxes and/or “burdened with big box expectation” will sure love this (because it is absolutely packed with cool features, no doubt).
Not to say that veteran Elektronauts wouldn’t/couldn’t like the Syntakt. Portability, all-in-one integration of some of their best features across their product lines, a coherent UX across the Digi-form product line, etc…there are plenty of good things here.
At OP…
I usually love it here too, and I’m a bit appalled at all the recent bullshit.
All the speculating, “well, in my opinion, Elektron should’ve…”, trash talking , etc
I will definitely follow the advice of some sage admins and mute threads from now on.
I like the sharing of techniques, tidbits of info, questions asked and answers given with no bullshit like “ Well, the first thing you should do is stop being an idiot. Second thing is is turn slice mode on.” I just think things have become a bit overblown.
We’ve seen this before in life…
A good thing exists and then a thousand people all come and try and make it their own, then two thousand more, and soon it’s just a bunch of people all saying “Well, in my opinion… “
The great, late Beat poet and author Richard Brautigan once wrote, beautifully, “Words are flowers of nothing.”
A whole lot of you are standing on the threshold with a fucking funeral bouquet of flowers, wilted under gobs of your own sperm from the self congratulatory verbal masturbation you just can not seem to quit.
It’s fucking gross.
Get off my lawn.
People are people so, whether here in Elektron or not. I like how Elektron admins kept it organic and allowed this community to thrived to become what it is today - very good and it encouraged members to post and share.
Isn’t the purpose to participate in a forum to discuss/hear views of others.
We should have a User Mute function (if not already). I prefer to mute an annoying individual than a thread itself.
Never push people to the point where they do not care anymore. The fact that people keep doing what they do here tells you that they still have a passion and interest in that subject, but when enough of people suffered the former, you would be left with a ghost town forum, a fate many platforms had suffered. So live and let live when we can.
