I remember when I was really young, before the internet took off and there were no search engines etc. there were different bulletin boards on different servers and you would have to dial them up on your 14.4k baud modem lol. Things are easier now, but with a lot less personality. Basically describes everything.
I loved BBSs but… I use to go on the pirate ones to download illegal games, as my friend was working with The Humble Guys which was some big cracker group at the time. Anyways, my Mom picked me up at the movies once (I believe it was the 90s Robinhood film) and she had a look of rage in her eyes. It happened that I ran up the phone bill one night downloading Kings Quest or whatever as I slept as it took several hours to d/l what would now take 5mins not knowing the BBS was a toll call which meant it basically cost $500 to procure a $50 cracked game.
Prodigy was fun too. I still have a mix tape a girl I met on there sent me.
