Introducing Analog Four & Analog Rytm MKII

Nice thinking. For me this means that for now I’ll sit back and watch what else Elektron will unveil over the next few months. I have no regrets with regards to my purchases - including DT - so far, but I won’t be lured into jumping on everything new that is released, however tempting it may be.

the release of rytm mk2 has made the decision to buy/not buy OT easy. i’ll keep my a4 mk1 tho.

Those MKIIs look about the size of the MPC Live

Is there a part of the Rytm MK1 that you feel doesn’t work as advertised originally?

was thinking the same too

i don’t get all the people complaining that the Rytm gets “already” updated after three years. Look at Machinedrums history. it also got updated every 2-4 years.

Elektron is catering to a small niche market, but I think they think they will reach new customers with the new machines and pricing schemes and might not care about losing some long term customers that are baffled by these choices. I think the OB license per machine thing is getting the most resistance. We’ll have to wait and see how it plays out.

My bet is that we won’t see OB for the new machines until the end of the year when all new machines are available to buy. My educated guess is that we might see OB in November. One my main gripes with OB is the silence about the limitations in the basic version. I would love to know what time limit of the time limited recording is. It could be 10 minutes, it could be 60…

This STUDIO vs LIVE product line diversion makes me think the following about to-be-released Elektron products:

  • The "live" product line now only has two samplers (DT for drums / percussion and the OTmk2 for synths and vocals) and an analog enhancer (AH). I think there will be a small form factor "Analog 2" and maybe a small form factor 4-voice "Analog Drums". That would kind of complete the "live" product line
  • The "studio" product line could use a massive over-the-top 16 track sampler / FX box. That would, to my perception, complete the "studio" line.
  • Elektron could do all of this based on the current tech stack

I wonder who owns all those early mk1s now, never see them around much.

I just hope to god people buy overbridge because I’d hate to see it go away due to lack of sales

What will be pivotal with the new overbridge premium is OS compatibility. I do not know how well people will take the info that they need to update their OS because their 99€ program doesn’t work

If you harbored those types of emotions after purchasing an analog drum machine, I truly would not know what to say

You’re a little off-topic here. :pl: For the OT Mk 1 versus the OT Mk 2, isn’t the only difference in size due to the audio jacks protruding from the back?

I’m super into the removal of all those LEDs and unnecessary lines. Just looking at the MKI’s makes my eyes tired. The playable keyboard to trigger notes, on the A4 MKII, looks vastly more enjoyable to use.

you forget that your machindrum and monomachine could be updated to MK2 by Elektron specialists

Overbridge doesn’t work in most DAWs (I know many people don’t care about OB but the promise of being able to integrate seamlessly into my Logic workflow was a massive factor in my jumping on the Elektron bandwagon and I’ve been bitterly disappointed that 3 years later it still doesn’t work as advertised) and the machine itself is buggy - I was playing earlier today and in some projects the bottom row of knobs refused to change the sound despite updating the visuals onscreen.
I’ve also had freezes during live sets, none of my other machines have done that.
The ringmod kick that was in the manual finally came out last year.

I still love these machines but releasing a new version of a premium product after 3 years? Should I start saving so I can buy the mk3s in 2020?
