Isn't the Analog Four the most incredible and deep instrument from Elektron so far?

Time to update your avatar then!

Yes, and you can use the trigs of this audio track as the source for CV output for v/oct and gate: the track filter will thus follow the note that you receive in the input.
This is an insane feature: it means you can e.g. control an 0-Coast with T4, and get the 0-Coast sound back in T4, then treat the sound with filters, overdrive and FX.

This, along with the general CV functionality, was one of the things that really caught my eye.

I’m looking forward to running Rings into the Analog Four, maybe with some Beads action too.

Perhaps even A4 -> Rings -> A4 -> Beads -> Analog Heat

I could even modulate Analog Heat with Marbles

Thnx but i still don’t understand this neighbor feature :joy: ill need to read the manual i guess

The oscillator on track 2 is basically just a constantly buzzing thing, right? It’s then routed forward, to be controlled in amplitude by the ADSR/VCA, timbre by the filter and FX, and so forth.

When you select the Neighbor oscillator, what comes from your track 1 as an output becomes your oscillator for track 2. So essentially you can use everything on track 1 AND track 2 (except the oscillator on track 2) to shape the oscillator on track 1.

Does that make any sense? :face_with_monocle:

I’ve been designing some Synth Stands and Eurorack cases - I think I might design an A4 stand with a 76HP 3U row above it and gaps for the cables to come though between them

Ah ok! So is something like neighbor feature on Mnm except on A4 you can still use Osc1 on the active track as a sound source?

Yes, I believe so on both counts

Analog Keys is the last synth I’d sell. And I’ve already sold a lot. The range of sounds is decent, but there is so much utility in it. I feel tacking the keybed and joystick onto the unit makes it far more useable than it would as a desktop unit however. It’s like a Keystep pro with a full internal four tracks of synthesis.

Well spotted! Next time I’m on a camping with my mk1

That sounds ace!!! As did those drum sounds you posted up thread… if you ever did a Vauge Robots A4 pack I’d definitely be at the front of the queue!!

Pattern switching is limited to the bar line unlike A4, it doesn’t have the Direct Change and restart modes, which to me is a deal breaker thing.

Well was this ever worth the wait!

Hope I’m not derailing the thread, but can anyone recommend a great sound pack? Don’t mind paying either. Looking for the classic patches and perhaps reverse engineer them with the overbridge (easier to see everything there)

I found the sound pack thread here but there’s way too many of them. Perhaps a couple of sound packs would let me learn more about the A4, rather than selling it and swapping for another machine.

Best drum pack IMO is @darenager’s Drums, with @taro’s close behind. For more organic sounds, I like Biopads.

I wouldnt like the thread to derail towards soundpacks and other type of promotion even if that maybe directly connected to the versatility of the glorious A4, as also a search on the forum brings lots of info related to that matter.

Let’s leave those links as they are and hope the thread doesn’t take that route and people keeps sharing their experiences with such a creative analog groovebox, sequencer, sound processor, magic box, dream box, and so on

I just received an used MKI yesterday.

I have an Octatrack and Rytm, and I used to think that I was covered on the synth side, having a decent mono synth (Erebus 3), a model:cycles, a plethora of software synths, the DVCO of the Rytm, single cycle waveform for Octa, etc., but over time all these started to feel limited either technically or sonically. Naturally I started itching for a proper, stand-alone synth, and I was searching on and off for months.

Honestly I don’t know why I overlooked the A4 for so long. This thread did spark a great deal of interest in it, and was definitely partly responsible for my decision.

So I got one and sat in front of it yesterday night. I thought I had a fairly good idea of what it can do, but looking through and playing with the functions in hand, made me realize how I was under estimating its potential. Like, damn.

One function that seems to have not been mentioned here much is the audio ins. They’re great. With the performance macros, this makes the A4 an incredible effects unit. It’s definitely comparable to the Octa.

Also, just to mention, I found the init patch to be fine. Like, it’s dry, but if you add a little bit of LP and effects, it’s already usable.

Sound creation has never been this exciting for me in years.

Love, love, love my A4 (mk1) so much that I’m thinking of adding a mk ii. I find it incredibly musical and it gets used more than any other mono synth I own (Pro2, Pro3, AS-1, Medusa, Typhon, SH01A, etc.).

Well at least think yourself lucky you got one before they went out of production, there seems to be some weird phenomenon of Elektron gear selling for more than new price once it is discontinued

But yeah it is a synth for life IMHO, so much to explore and so many new ways to use it still. Congrats on getting yours!
