…and slowly but surely, UNSUBSCRIBE becomes a serious political statement…
i would much rather buy a cheap M1 Macbook Air and use the computer version of the software. iPads seem far more limiting if you’re used to working with hot keys and shortcuts. not only that but how compatible is the iPad version with all the popular plugins? just seems like a waste of effort on Apple’s part.
2/10 would not subscribe
I love this ‘Why subscription models suck’ thread.
On an off topic note - I did hear something about an upcoming Apple app.
It’s a noob question from a non Mac/iOS ecosystem user. Can you access the tools without an internet connection? Maybe you have 30 days of offline use until the next bill or a full year, depending on your subscription model?
Others may have pointed this out, but it’s actually $4.08 per month if you do an annual subscription ($49 per year).
I’ve been thinking about this all morning, and I think you’re right, but we don’t yet know how Apple will address this. My biggest issue with an iOS version of Logic is not MY files, but the TBs of samples and preset files I use with my plug-ins and the plugins themselves. Right now, I have two 2TB SSDs. One is connected to my desktop and one I carry with me for my laptop. Even that is a pain because I have to keep both upgraded simultaneously. Some plugins don’t care where you have your plug in files as long as you tell them (Omnisphere just needs to know where the STEAM folder is). But some are not this easy (Native Instruments and others). I hope there is an easy way for me to just connect my external SSD to my iPad to be able to use my rather large assortment of plugins or this is going to be a pretty big fail. This also brings to mind the added expenses and compatibility issues of those third-party plugins on iOS–will Omnisphere, NI, Serum, Dune, etc. be ported to iOS at all?
…wait a second…that’s 50 bux a year…no monthly subscription…that’s 4 bux per month, so to say…
He just wants to be mad.
Don’t you understand, there are principles at stake here! Very important principles….
I find it funny how people complain about spending 4$ a month while spending at least that amount daily on soy lattes and other hipster coffee.
Although I’m not an apple supporter, just a passionate user, Apple or any other app developer doesn’t owe us anything. Everyone is free to charge how much they want for their work.
Being an Audio app developer myself, You can’t even imagine the amount of work that went into porting Logic to iOS. It’s a totally different platform man. With a totally different set of constraints.
assuming facts not in evidence
i use iConnectivity Audio4+ with my iPad air usually run Zenbeats and it works pretty flawless.
i thought this way until i wanted to integrate more things into my setup.
i advocate for iConnectivity products, audio4+ i use is great, no problems and i send my OT into the iPad, and have a LCXL via usb controlling octatrack with midi din.
File management on the iPad isn’t too bad now days with the Files app.
You can choose monthly ($5/month) or Annual ($49/year).
The evidence is in the amount of hipster coffee shops
i thought bubble tea/boba is all the rage now…
(the hipsters are bastardizing my poke now)
What I know for sure, and sadly my bank statement is the evidence, is that I’ve spent 4 years worth of Logic Pro subscription accumulating various apps to try to create an iPad music making setup that works for me.
All I can say is, Ableton, your move.
If Live suite was made available on my iPad, it would be an instant purchase. I’m even adamantly against subscriptions, but I’d do one for that.
