I think smaller text is a big must here. No much sense we can only see (so big) first characters of the files. This forces us to use Transfer app to rename all folders / files, which can be exhausting (about this, being able to browse / edit sample folder contents just via USB, without the Transfer app, would be another great update)
Wave preview of samples would be a great change too
Other than that, I am really in love with this white thing
So I wanna preface this with my utter love for this box. Its combination of simplicity and forced limitations has pulled me out of a 5-year creative rut and rekindled my love for making music. Going DAWLESS was one of the smartest things I’ve ever done.
Anyway, these are the things I’d most like to see improved with the M:S. (If there’s already an existing solution/workaround, please clue me in):
Solo/mute mode
Latch the pattern button so switching patterns becomes a one-button endeavor
Transpose outgoing MIDI. Transpose via KBT or PAD settings works fine natively on the unit itself for Trigs and Pads…but when it’s time to transpose all the notes sent to an external device, these settings don’t do anything. Hence the need to go through and painstakingly change the notes on every trig.
Global settings that can be applied across every pattern in a project. For example, I’d like the ability to change a track’s volume on one pattern, and have that apply to every pattern in the project. Same with per-track MIDI chan settings.
On another note, is anyone here using an M:S in tandem with the Octatrack? It seems like the OT could do an elegant job of filling in some of the M:S’s shortcomings…lack of an arp, polyphonic sequencing, more performance options with scenes etc. I’ve seen a video of Stimming rocking both unitsk, although it was unclear to me what the device’s respective roles were.
OTOH, part of me is almost afraid of adding another device; despite the occasional frustrations, having the limitations of M:S’s 6 tracks has been very beneficial in terms of writing!
When copying a trig note between different tracks all parameter locks are copied too. It would be great that all are other parameters would be copied too and pasted as parameter locks, including associated sample
I think this will make very easier (and faster) working with sample locks
Not sure if we are talking about the same. I mean, I can set all parameters as parameter locks for a single trig, if that’s what you were meaning
One example: let’s say I have built a kick sequence in track 1. Now I am building a hihat sequence in track 2. I tune some parameters and finally I am happy with the sound
Now I want to merge both tracks, so track 1 will be a kick + hihat sequence, which will free the other 5 tracks to add some other sounds
I can do this using Sample locks feature, but I need to do all the work directly in track 1, as I can’t copy the note trigs sample association from track 2 to track 1
In fact, I should add any parameter change as parameter lock for every trig if I want them to be pasted
That’s because I am asking if it would be possible to capture all current parameter settings when copying a trig, so they are pasted as parameter locks. It would save us a lot of time
I see what you mean now. Oh I completely agree. Unclear about how feasible that will be for the M:S but it could be a really cool feature for those that want to enable it.
Not really sure why this already isnt a there, but there needs to be a setting for the midi Out/Thru port to function both as an out and a thru simultaneously. Like, when you hook a controller keyboard to the M:S In and a synth to the M:S Out, you should be able to trigger the synth and the M:S track on the same channel with the keyboard. I can do this with the Digitone, so im not sure why you can’t do it here.
Delay time: Finding it hard setting the desired delay time quickly.
I’d love to see a method to quickly “snap” to special delay times, similar to [FUNC] + know for other parameters. Unfortunately [FUNC] is already used we delay feedback, but maybe something like [TRACK] + delay could be it.
How hard would it be to include a “User’s default Kit”. I only use my own sample and everytime i want to create a new sequence i have to dive in menus to get out of the factory folder and upload my own samples. with some of them really used a lot
Now that the Model:Cycles has the ability to assign pad velocity to custom parameter destinations, I’m really hoping that feature will come to the M:S.
Are there any other features the M:C has (apart from the sound engine stuff obviously) that the M:S could do with?
tho the samples is a cool hands on little machine it does seem the cycles is a bit more special.
it would be cool if the samples had another function / thing that would make it stand out as that bit more unique rather than it presently seeming a bit like a scaled down digitakt.
like adding a resampling machine that you could select on a track to live resample the other tracks or something, I dunno
I love the idea of a track “merge” that gives priority/core sample to the left most track, and turns the right track into sample-locks /p-locks for all the steps not occupied by the left most track.
Would be huge for my tracks, as my bass track rarely occupies the same steps as my kick track.
(one tip/trick I use lately is using the same kick sample for bass, with pitch and start point adjusted)
