Moog Subharmonicon

Damn I was just about to buy a used one. Now second hand prices will go up/ less units will land on ebay…

Moog knew I wanted MIDI Note Sequence Transpose for my birthday!! Can’t wait to give this a spin after work. I do wish they could provide some way to send transport and clock without also tying them to note control (the MIDI input does all three while sync only provides clock to my knowledge) but that’s an edge case and it’s only because I’ve run out of MIDI channels in my setup lol

This will indeed be useful, and perhaps mitigate the one (small) thing I wish they put it, which was a key combo to turn on/off XOR. If you have not yet tried XOR, you are in for a treat, but there was never a reason to bother to plug in a midi keyboard. But now there is, and it will be easy to devote a toggle to that.

I have messed around with XOR quite a bit actually! It’s fun as hell to hook it up to my Digitakt and use the CC value knob as a toggle

Huh. Never thought of ‘playing’ the XOR value, but of course that would be awesome! Thanks, for the idea.

Just did the update, which seemed to have worked, since I now have the transpose func, but now it’s not syncing to midi properly, like it skips a beat once in a while  or hangs/stutters. Tried both ableton and digitone as midi clock source so far, anyone else experiencing some similar or has an idea?

EDIT: looking at this reddit post this seems to be a newly introduced bug unfortunately :man_facepalming: :sob: and the old firmware is not available at this time so you might want to hold off on updating if you use midi sync in any way

Was about to do the update, and decided to read the rest of this post first…glad I did, thanks for the heads up.

You’re welcome :content: Found this under a random YouTube video:

From Moog "Hi, and thank you for sharing.
This bug was reported by a user earlier this week, and our Engineering team is actively working on a fix. The team has identified the issue, and we anticipate this will be corrected (via new FW update) very soon.”

I just spent the weekend using the SubH just with clock in sync and didn’t even realize anything was amiss until I tried to experiment with the sequence transposition. :weary: glad to see Moog is aware though.

Thx for the info

Again it pays off not to update immediately

Subharmonicon for bass but also with a high note pitch sequenced with the internal sequencer.
The bass line is following the internal sequencer too but it’s a basic “4 on the floor” rhythm while the high note is doing… well, I don’t know exactly tbh haha. Subharmonicon shenanigans I guess! I like to set the vcf decay to 0 with a slow vcf attack and a small amount of filter cutoff modulation, it creates a reverse sound like sound (to my ears).

I have just uploaded this, I have tested it but if there are any bugs let me know.

updated with minor UI improvements and corrected the labelling of the 4 Sub Oscillator sub divisions.

Hi, I know it’s been a while but… would you still have the file?

got a SubH today! first impressions:

  • the base tone is glorious. it’s my first Moog and i can see why their VCOs and VCFs are legendary. it absolutely sings. the amp and the envelopes are very musical too
  • build quality is astonishing, nicer than any other machine i’ve had. the knobs feel smooth as butter and it’s heavy
  • if you’re a fan of good packaging and a fun unboxing experience, Moog will treat you very well indeed
  • the manual is a work of art in itself
  • it’s super easy to get something musical and gorgeous running on the sequencers
  • it’s super easy to fuck up your beautiful sequence without even understanding what you’ve done wrong
  • if my first day is anything to go by, you’ll play it for hours and not actually get anything productive done
  • pair this with an Octatrack and you’re sorted, what a combo!
  • price seems to have dropped, they’re going in the UK for £535 - £550
