It’s like going to see a relatively decent cover band.
But joking aside I’m happy to work with what’s there. And happy to use some external fx if need be.

I don’t get why anyone would buy an MPC and be hyper-critical of the softsynths it comes with. Or the plugins.
They are all highly usable if you put some time in and know what you are doing. The complaints seem to be focussed on not being able to open a synth and select a preset that instantly sounds like a world beater.
I do understand that something like Hype can feel frustrating through not having full access to parameters/sound design elements… but, you know, just use a dedicated synth if that’s your thing.
You want a classic Prophet 5 sound? Get a Prophet 5.
Or get Prophet 5 samples.
Or take a soft synth and sound sculpt it to the ballpark of a Prophet 5 sound.
The MPC can work in any of these ways.
It’s crazy how high the expectations are of hardware/software manufacturers these days… imagine handing all this power to ‘insert favourite electronic artist here’ pre-1995.
Anyway, 2 more days to wait fellas!! #jun23
i remind myself that we’re all different, personally I’m always amazed that anyone even cares about the plugins or the sample library at all or would even buy an mpc based on the quality of it’s plugins… different strokes and all that, everything is everything… in the end there is room for all of us
Yeah I don’t want an MPC for synths, same as I don’t use softsynths, for me hardware synths and samples are better. I guess they certainly do serve their purpose for some people, and they are handy to have, just not essential, for me.
My personal issue come from the fact that over the years I’ve been lucky to afford high end fx units from Lexicon, TC Electronics etc.
I’ve sold most of my external fx units, for clutter and desk space reasons, and I’m happier for doing so, but it’s hard sometimes to hear that lack of finesse with the built in Fx. And that’s in general with most gear. I’ve been spoilt and it has a lasting effect.
With all that said, I try to use Fx sparingly now, as opposed to a main element or for sound design, and the Mpc Fx are fine in that context.
I absolutely love my Mpc X though.
Oh yes I was also wondering if it’s going to be release. So far no one has given any reviews on that.
I’m getting more interested in the Mpc one for sampling and if Op-4 is going to be included in the newest update, I think I might downgrade (or an upgrade?) from the DT & DN combo to the Mpc one.
whaaaaaaaaat?
you mean side grade , ouch just the thought of getting rid of the digitakt makes my stomach hurt
If one is very particular about their ITB effects, it’s super easy to just bounce your stems (or project) to an SD card, so that you can then replace the native effects with whatever you like.
Also, MPC software can handle plugins, you can even use it in controller mode.
Similarly, I’ve heard that it’s pretty common for pro’s to work ITB when writing a track, and then just go to a studio and replace certain sounds with analog synths.
I actually felt oversamplered when I had both, and sold the Digitakt.
Now I have MPC and Syntakt and they work really well with each other.
Update 2.11: Please Akai. Give us this OPx4 for my MPC One. With new probabilities function i will be more than happy.
*upgrade
I don’t want to judge from your nickname but I kinda feel you’re a bit biased…
What?!
Fake News!
Is there a depository of multisampled synths for the MPC…a place where people upload multisamples for anyone to use? I know there are places here and there but it seems it would behoove Akai to have a place for this kind of thing. If there were multisamples of all sorts of different synths I would be more inclined to keep my X. I am just using it for midi to my Virus and A4 and can still return it but I’d love a lot more synth multisamples to load into it.
never enough samplers, I feel like every time a sampler gets sold that an angel in heaven loses it’s wings, but then I think of the person who bought the sampler and think whenever a sampler gets bought an angel in heaven gets its wings lol
Hi got a setup question for ya MPC users.
I’m connecting some gears with midi to a Motu MTP and I’m thinking of connecting the Motu MTP via USB to the MPC. Just want to check if I’m able to trigger the different gears from the MPC via USB? Does the Motu MTP ports show up on the MPC? Can i rename the ports and does it stay ‘renamed’?
When did this thread delve into the deep sciences?
About the FX, I imagine AKAI had some obvious CPU constraints, but whether it’s the reason some lack character or not is anybody’s guess. The only effect I found really unusable is the chorus, all the settings just make little sense.
The synths aren’t that bad. Drumsynth is actually very good and can emulate all the classic 808 and 909 sounds. Tubesynth envelopes are slow, it’s obvious without even looking at the resulting audio in the sample editor, but it does nice pads. Bassline is just weird, but with some effort it can simulate a pretty convincing 303:
Odyssey and Hype are definitely more useful, Hype has some very good presets for EDM.
I wonder what time the update is out. Got the day off tomorrow and I’m hoping to get a session in with it. Hoping we get the extras. Hoping they’re fully featured synths too. Hype is a lot cooler since someone higher up explained the sample oscillator but I still much prefer a fully featured synth
