Great machine, nice sound, limited to 16 samples per bank, limited time signature in that each track is the same length. Forgetting a lot but those are main differences.
Thanks for checking!! The weird part is that it works on some pads. No release/decay is 0. I wonder if it could be some other settingā¦?
*edit: went through again and checked every setting over and over with no luck. Very strange, the pad only went in to on shot if you tapped it very fast.
Anyway, just remade the program and now it works.
And it has an analog filter as well I think?
Yes, with sends.
I use the SP-16 and have a MPC One. The MPC is light years ahead in features. But the SP-16 sits on my desk while the MPC is on the floor somewhere.
That probably doesnāt help you but if anything, the SP reminds me of the MPC2000xl. Itās simple. Easy to use. Sounds great. And has some type of magic I canāt explain.
The MPC One is a great device. But doesnāt have that flow for me.
Honestly, I think itās cause the SP-16 can have all the patterns laid out for you AND you can change patterns on the bar, not after the sequence.
The MPC can do all that above, but requires you to be in a separate page and use a special key combo. Buzz kill for me when I just want to jam.
Love my SP
When loading wav files onto an SD card is there a preferred sample rate and bit depth that the new MPCs prefer? Should I convert everything to 24bit 44.1khz first?
I ask because other samplers, for example my s2400, have an optimal sample format (16bit 48khz in the case of the s2400 because the audio engine is 16bit 48khz). It saves the sampler from having to resample during playback and adding artifacts from its subpar sample conversion. Is the MPC the same, I canāt really find any info about this?
The MPC Live has so far read any file Iāve thrown at it on a random SD, including WAV (most likely of varied rates), FLAC, AIFF, and MP3. It can even save/export as OGG haha, which means it must be able to read that too. I think when you load a non WAV format, it gets converted on import iirc.
The 2400 and the modern MPCs are literal worlds apart tbh. I just really wish they hadnāt tried cramming Ableton type sequencing, and piano roll into a 128x64 pixel OLED screen on the 2400. Any kind of detailed step sequencing/editing on that thing is irritating at best tbh. It has a great sound, but it has a lot of stuff that either works badly or is just totally missing. I personally wish theyād taken sequencer inspiration (once again) from the MPC2000 etc era. Hopefully they keep improving it anyhow. I also think itās weird how much effort you have to go through just to get the SP sound out of it. Baffling that the default is high resolution and you have to change various settings to even get the SP sound imo.
Sorry went on a 2400 ramble there haha
Nah use what you want. It supports mostly everything.
i sue WAVs which is standard.
Just want to mention that when I had a Splice account, my Live 2 wouldnāt play back any Flac samples that Iād got from Splice. I sold my Live 2 and closed my Splice account before they answered my query about it. I did say Iād like to know the issue in case I rejoined but I still never got a reply.
Did you use the Splice over wifi integration?
Anyone here with a Digitone or Volca also tried out OPx-4?
Though I know what kinda answers to expect, still curious how the compare soundwise.
Yes.
The Digitone has a tone I enjoy, but the OPX4 sounds great, and is far deeper.
Does anyone know if the āPad Performā screen in Progressions mode has a Plugin counterpart outside of the MPC universe? I know there are things like Scaler, but thatās a bit over-complicated for what Iām trying to do. I really just like having all the relevant chords in a key laid out, in a bunch of different styles and varieties.
More and more, Iām finding that Iām using the MPC as a midi controller (which is hysterical) to control things inside of Ableton. Iād like to just be able to replicate that workflow with a plugin but I canāt seem to find anything that does this exact thing.
This is what I like to hear.
Is the number of operators similar? By deeper, do you mean OPx-4 is more configurable?
There are multiple filter paths, a huge mod matrix, a limited sample layer, and four ops, same as the digitone. They donāt have the algorithms, but you are free to essentially create your own and route as you please.
Novation Launchpad Pro has this on its 8x8 grid. Itās the best chord implementation Iāve come across.
Scaler is really good, if you can work with that in your system itās worth exploring/learning.
is it possible to use the sample as an operator ? Or is it just layering ?
I have a launchpad pro with my MPC, but the progressions feature is better as you can load and save custom progressions, and apply them to any key.
If you donāt have an MPC, the launchpad is great. I do like that you can play chords and melody at the same time.
Just a percussive layer essentially.
