Yes, if you need the labels you might be better with the MPC.
The LPP is great for building custom chords, working outside of single keys/scales and assigning them to single pads. And it’s fast/intuitive too, especially if you have some music theory knowledge.
No. It’s not very useful either. FM works the opposite of subtractive synthesis, it adds harmonics to the starting waveforms. That’s why FM tends to use waveform with very low harmonic contents, such as sine waves.
If you use samples as operators, you get noise very, very fast. And it’s not even nice sounding noise.
Honestly don’t think you even need the sample feature.
Just playing around with this beast, and you can create almost any kind of instrument sound.
So it looks like the MPC converts whatever audio file you load into memory into 32bit float, so I guess it doesn’t really matter.
I can’t see how to do this.
I’d appreciate any pointers/info.

Automated so you can move the start point of the slice/sample? Ala Elektron (Digitakt and Rytm)?
It feels like 2.11 is the beginning of the development of a lot of the new sequencer functions.
I like Probability already, it’s let me bring some parts in from Ableton and my Elektron devices to my MPC… but I’m sure there’s more to come from Akai on it.

How would you effectively modulate it, though, without something like the Force’s macros and LFO’s?
Even then, they’d have to add a tempo sync option to force’s LFO’s.
Its more automation than modulation at this time (perhaps more repeatable results) but it’s quite possible that modulation and even probability can be added to this, its getting more OT all the time…
People seem obsessed with LFO’s and modulating…
You have control over it with automation, which is achieved by modulating controls with your hands instead of an LFO.
That’s me. LFOs are awesome. Automation is great if you know what you want exactly. My OT taught me that I don’t always know what I want.
An LFO can also do motions that the hand can’t, e.g move very fast, even into audio rate, or random, or jump between values
But yeah I get your point, it’s awesome to have possibilities for automation. It’s a good idea to use them, and they can provide a human touch.

What if you slow down the BPM to 50 or something?
Yes, but by combining it with note probability, you could achieve somewhat random results. Basically, create overlapping 1/16th slices so each slice is at least 2-3 16ths long, then do what the guy in the video does and add something like 75% probability on all of them. Now some of the notes will play for more than one 16th step, which will create random passages without introducing weird silence when the subsequent note isn’t playing.
