just as long as they don’t go Full NI, because everybody knows one should never go Full NI, I shall continue to funnel my simultaneously meager and substantial ramen funds to their portal.
Well, it’s clear that their business strategy shifted towards the NI model. It’s very profitable. Let’s hope they’ll realise that not all their customers are teenage tiktok producers that buy “chord packs” and oversaturate youtube with terrible lofi music.
jokes aside I think they are riding the pendulum all the way to the bank, having great success with their new line up, Force, mpc keys plugs, wadawada and the next time they release an mpc completely stripped down with none of these new features it will sell like cotton candy at the county fair… the future looks bright for Akai
This is a really good point
my only wish is that they switch up the orieintation on that one and put the Q-Links and screen on the left side of the pads, if they do that everyone on the dev team will be able to buy a summer home, especially if they add some q-link faders
Too busy with Flump at the moment.
I’m looking forward to the first episode of the “Akai, a story of greed” Amazon Prime Original Series.
I tried reading the latest post but I gave up.
Have you guys tried to make your own presets with the demos instead of trusting some guy on YouTube ?
Once I started making my own sounds I stopped worrying about what the presets showcase.
Yeah, was a tad shocked to see so much over presets.
I mean I’d like to ;D But there is no way I’m paying up the 500$, hoping for a price drop later on, so I don’t really feel the urgency.
Personally I like presets. Sometimes I use them as is, other times they inspire me to go down the sound design rabbit hole
The built-in battery truly is a killer MPC feature. Didn’t think I’d appreciate it as much as I do, even though I upgraded to the Live 2 specifically for this reason. I’ve gone from having a dedicated, late-night session once per week to having a 30-45 minute session, in bed, almost every evening. It’s so convenient to carry it from the living room, to the bed, or to the studio and not having to worry about unplugging and bringing along cables. The battery lasts for 3-4 evening sessions so I tend to just keep the power brick in the studio. It’s already made this hobby more accessible for me. The only “problem” is that I’m less eager to plug in my external synths because that means I have to go back to the studio again, so as a result, I focus on the built-in synths for my music making currently. I’m sure I’ll want to get into the studio again soon for some serious sound design, but right now I’m just so happy about being able to make music whenever inspiration strikes. And it feels like a better use of my time when winding down before bed than binge watching YouTube.
I still miss the Prog Edit button though. No matter how many times I press the Menu+pad combo, it requires me to stop and think, especially when editing a pad program because I accidentally press the Menu+the pad in question instead.
I put the program edit at the bottom of the new slide out menu so it is very quick. You should try it, itt makes it very fast…
You have sound browser and program edit right next to each other at the bottom on every screen when you swipe right from the side.
Sounds ace. I tried to do that with the Mashine plus but the cable is so damn short!
And also the logical development of Akai’s current focus is a subscription model, because it makes sense to release more plugins and this will soon become too expensive for many users. Subs will be incentivised and expanded as online devices become the norm, sampling will be sidelined (except where paired with services like Splice) and eventually someone will clean up with an old-school sampler that reinvents the genre via a two-line LCD display, numeric keypad and 32mb of RAM. If we’re truly blessed this will coincide with the inevitable floppy disk revival, although this is already overdue.
There’s always a price drop. I think Falcon 2 was 499 and as soon as it went down to 349 I bought it. Plugins will always have sales
Lmao… Splice hasn’t worked right on the MPC (or Force) in over a year. So many blank samples and files that just won’t play - it’s hilariously bad. And neither Akai nor Splice seem to have any intention to fix it.
Flushing a giant orange turd takes a while.
I’m sure the FBI will raid Akai offices any minute!
It truly is.
Soon, the Supreme Court will rule that Plugins are a state issue.
After that, Pro Plugins and Anti Plugin demonstrations will erupt across the whole country.
That was my experience too. It made searching for sample absolutely deflating at times.
