My question is, will the AU and other DAWs be of the same functionality as LIVE?
From the email:
"Overbridge 1.10 coming soon Total Recall imminent.
Overbridge 1.10 is on the horizon and it’s one substantial update. The biggest feature addition is the Total Recall functionality, which automatically can store your important Analog machine data directly inside the Overbridge plugin. Other 1.10 additions include easy analog processing of external audio, even better sync, GUI refinements, and more.
For Mac users, Overbridge 1.10 adds support for OS X El Capitan as well as improves support for the AU plugin format."
I think it basically means that if you create a project in your daw, the settings are saved as part of the daw project, so there is no need to save them to the machine also.
So interns of workflow, if you want to pick up a project where you left it, you just need to open the daw file and you are ready to go.
No need to load project/kit/sounds on the elektron device.
I think Total Recall is supposed to remember every aspect of the machine connected, with the click of a button. Not even need to save stuff on the unit, I THINK. It’s all saved in the plugin computer project.
Not sure how it will work with samples on the Rytm. If indeed all the loaded samples are also saved on the computer, so that you can connect a stock Rytm and just Total Recall and go.
AU and DAW is welcome. I’m a Logic user. I haven’t started using Overbridge because I’m a Logic user. But what about a stand-alone version? I’d be much more interested in a stand-alone version for sound design and Librarian use.
Cool guys. Sounds interesting, be interested to see what it does over simply turning off the machine.
In general I cant say I jump around projects too much (at least while i am actually working on one project). Could see how that could be useful if you did though - like if each Live Set had a specific machine project associated.
But what if you’ve got more of a master set thing going on? It’s probably more useful for individual daw projects, right?
^ Hehe. Surprised Nobody used the 2 weeks one before now.
But yeah I’m looking forward to trying out the total recall stuff… I Can’t say OB itself has changed my workflow at all up up to now. I give it a go but always end up using the actual hardware instead… The audio stuff is nice but I still prefer going into a mixer first which defeats the object a bit. But that’s off topic sorry
Thanks for commenting, Simon. Can’t wait. It’s f’ing freezing here and I’m looking forward to getting lost in the basement studio. Hard times for my F5 key, though
I guess the best solution would be to make this optional. Similar to how Logic handles EXS sample data.
But what about a stand-alone version? I’d be much more interested in a stand-alone version for sound design and Librarian use.
Agreed, totally. I think they should have done this prior to OB, seeing as it’s not a task that needs sample accurate timing, and could have been done and dusted months ago.
I hope the librarian will be able to compare two sounds, to reveal duplicates or unwanted old versions. Or they publish info on how to request data from the A4, using sys ex.
It’s an app that enables you to manage the data in your A4, etc.
Whereas the Sound Designer deals with the parameters of a single sound (etc), the librarian works at a higher level. E.g. you would be able to view all 128 sounds in a kit’s sound pool in a single window, and you would be able to delete, relocate, etc various sounds. Similarly for the other data types, Kits, etc. Much quicker than doing it directly on the device, but IMO the overview aspect is the main benefit.
It would also allow you to go beyond the A4’s not inconsiderable memory, by archiving projects, etc on your computer.
Not yet. Getting the basics right is essential before adding more features like that.
It’s very nice! Finally you can pipe audio into the voice tracks on the Rytm through the plugin and use the filter, overdrive distortion, effects to process your external sounds. Fatness!
Release is unfortunately not exactly imminent, but very close. We need to test the new features thoroughly before releasing. It’s very important that total recall works without issues since it will handle the working memory (loaded project) of the machine. Next week we will be very busy.
I will move down to the developers for a bit, for debugging of any issues that I might run across. Serious testing underway! Wish us luck.
