Novation Circuit Rhythm and Circuit Tracks

What a missed opportunity! No usb audio, not class compliant like the model: sample. This could of been a great companion to a laptop and Ableton live for a simple on the go setup. I’ll stick with the launchpad pro mk3.

I’m out.

Not that I was in to begin with.

Watching the loopop video for the nitty gritty…
Early impressions on the Tracks:

  • 1 minute of samples over 64 slots, kinda meh (but we did make 2.5MB work on the MDUW tho)
  • Same Nova synth engine as original Circuit, meh (don’t @ me)
  • New, more refined interface is nice.
  • Profile with built in battery is slick.
  • Sidechain now even more useful thanks to external input track.

Not for me. I’ll wait and see what the Circuit Rhythm brings in terms of RAM, which will be an important spec since it can resample.
I could see if you don’t own a groove box, or maybe really enjoy your OG Circuit, why the Circuit Tracks as a first buy or upgrade would be appealing

Nothing compared to the Black OT AE reveal.

Edit : here we go again talking about the OT on another product’s thread.

Yup, disappointing. I was hoping that they injected at least some Peak DNA in it…i mean that Nova Engine is not totally unusable…just…old!

More of a Mk1.0.5…

I think a simple saturation at the end of the chain, using new code, would have done wonders.
The problem I’ve had with the Nova engine is just how pristine it is. I don’t debate anyone for enjoying that sound. In fact, a lot of records I played in the early '00s were made with Novas and Supernovas. Every tool is a weapon, if you hold it right.
But yea, there was an opportunity to further differentiate it whilst also appealing to more people. Like a “grime” knob. We woulda ate that stuff up. But not a “phat” knob. It’s gotta be refined, not so 90s. See also “vintage mode”, “slop”, etc.
I look at the drive algorithms from Sinevibes in the FX1 slot of the Typhon and I’m blown away. Something like that PER synth track woulda been great.

It’s time to re-plug that EHX Platform pedal.

I would if I didn’t donate it to a friend.

But I’d prefer such treatment on a per synth track basis.

Yes.

Check out Cuckoo´s presentation for the Analog Heat…the Heat does magic to the original Novation Circuit…but a 700€ fx, just to make the 400€ groovebox sound better…

The real deal might be components here, seems they updated it quite nicely for the Circuit Tracks, which would also explain the extra 100Euro on the price:

I agree. It does sound a bit sterile and icy to me. All of your suggestions would would really warm things up. Maybe even add a new filter. That alone could give a whole new variety of sounds.

they are wasting so much space for that d*mn zigzag design, they could have put a perfectly nice little strip of waveform right in their and lined the knobs up beautifully … grrr grrrr

Haha. I’ll stand by my MkII assessment. Feels like an Elektron MkII. Keep what was working for them, streamline and tweak a few things, and add some usability tweaks.

Why would those new workflow improvements need more RAM?

I wonder if its not just running on the same guts?

… everything, a 400€ groovebox , a $50 pocket operator… you name it

The new components interface is sharp, though. You are right.

A Monotron Delay also works wonders on a $2k polysynth.

Adding more expensive FX to a cheaper instrument or sound isn’t something to worry about and absolutely a normal situation for many people. You’re usually not using the FX unit just for that 1 instrument or sound.

I’ll be honest I don’t find the chiclets gratifying to look at but hopefully the sampling features and workflow are so great that one forget’s about the look
