I ll hold out hope that they snatched a page out of Boss/Roland’s book and have the Circuit Rhytmn be the modern SP-303/404SX successor (that many including myself would get in a heart beat).

Other than than, it is cool to be able to sequence two external synths/gizmos with dedicated midi tracks.
Audio IN is nice aswell.
I would have loved the two leaked devices crammed into one.

This is not bringing the Circuit back to my studio.
Sold the OG one for a reason, they didnt address the engine and brought I/0 tweaks 6 years after.

Hey at least its not the AFX version Circuit limited purple edition cash grab

There is a lot of customization through Components, that I wish I could just configure the tracks how I would like. Maybe I want 6 drum tracks, 1 midi track, and 1 synth track. Or maybe I want 2 drum tracks, 2 synths, and 4 midi tracks. And if this somehow changed RAM allowance, then I would be cool with that. Instead of 64 samples per drum track, then maybe it is 30 or 40 if I add more drum tracks, or more synth tracks, or whatever. This seems like it could be possible with the “Packs”, as I think they are calling them, that change the state of the machine.

it seems to be a refinement/iteration of circuit 1 … i wouldn’t be surprised if projects were compatible.

its a shame that FX seem the same , theyre ok but would be nice to edit and define user fx parameters… (i liked changing pattern/bank …i forget which. on them though, so FX would wobble around similar to how digitakt can… some weird fx that way)

good that you don’t have to basically go into boot mode to change samples…hopefully theyve improved the sample pad assignment app, it was very basic.

i was always suspicious whether the identical sample was on device too, I’d find a nice clean sample but somehow it didnt seem identical on circut … maybe theres a bit depth / sample rate change…(this was the old circuit… no idea what new one does)

summary - if you liked old one, youll like new one.
if you didnt like old one you will probably not like new one.

if circuit was half price of circuit tracks… i’d have to think a little before deciding which one to get…its not an instant ‘buy the new one’ for me…

The synth engine sounds pretty dated and not in a good way. But I can see myself using it for pad sounds while having the MIDI tracks sequence a couple of mono synths. And being able to run input audio through the onboard effects is nice. It’s something I hoped would be added to the Digitakt eventually (nope). So not bad overall but I expected more of an update. Not into editing synth patches via software either…

The new skin of the Nova engine looks nice.
Imagine the Circuit having an actual screen. Now those 8 encoders with a deep synth engine would make sense!

Start listening to your userbase Novation and stop pretending to do so with all the marketing nonsense.

Hardly anyone was asking for multiple devices, all forums and social media are filled with users asking for a more serious Circuit and all those people are willing to pay extra for that.

Elektron does this as well but at least they offer us beasts next to their little puppies.

Peak and Summit aren’t beasts? Or does this analogy only apply to “grooveboxes” ?

Looking forward to it.

And looking forward to giving this one a spin. Circuit Tracks plus a couple of Volcas gives you a full jam setup with sequencer, four voices, effects, sidechain, master-level filter, and plenty of hands-on control. Seems like a great starting point for anyone wanting to get into hardware (much like the original Circuit was, and then some).

Loopop is right, in that price range there is not much choice. Electribes, MC101…that´s it.

Very true. In its range, it remains relevant. From that perspective, the somewhat modest update makes a lot of sense. There’s still nothing competing with it within its area, if you like the overall idea of it. When I had one, I remember I was thinking, “Right, this is perfect. If it had audio in, I wouldn’t need anything else.”

And if, at that point, this would’ve arrived, I would’ve been all over it.

That was a few years ago, mind you

only groove boxes

Maybe Model samples and cycles also, but yeah I think this has a different goal than them or MC101 or Electribes… it feels almost purely focused on someone who has no other hardware, like the get started tool kit. If you already have a set up this doesn’t really bring much to the market, the MC101, Model series, and Electribes sound engines offer up a bit more interest, at least for me. Circuits simplified Nova engine has felt tired for a long time IMO, it’s usable but that is about all you can say about it.

I suppose if you were building a secondary battery powered set up this might be the starting point.

Yeah, definately. Model series needs a poly analog counterpart though too…Model:Analog for the win…with 8 voices…

hmm, now i think that Circuit Tracks + MC-101 = almost perfect compact live rig.

Does the Polyend Tracker count as an alternative?

In some ways Novation have been their own worst enemy here with the great support the original was given. If we compare this to the original circuit it would look like a significant improvement but when compared to the original with 1.8 firmware it doesn’t look anywhere near as big as a jump.

Can we expect much in terms of firmware development with this one - If it shares a lot of similarities with the original?
