Novation Circuit Rhythm and Circuit Tracks

I actually really like the Novas, but agree some built-in effects to dirty things up could have upped the game, here. With the new ins, it’s a lot easier to send to a pedal for your grime, at least?

The real clincher for a lot of existing Circuit owners will be carrying around a bunch of packs with you on SD card instead of needing to decide what project you’re working on before heading to the coffee shop.

And presuming the lion’s share of the US$100 bump is that li-ion battery (and constant, steady decline of li-ion costs), this will go from “affordable” to “pretty dang affordable” in a year or two.

In producing tunes? Totally.

In capability? Split decision (the tracker has more tracks and sampling tools, but no synth)

In portability… sort of? Similar size, but no built-in batter for the Tracker.

In cost? No. The tracker lists for $US200 more.

All that said, I sold my old school Circuit, don’t miss it, and won’t get the Tracks. And you’ll pry my Tracker out of my cold, dead hands.

I have not watched any of the vids yet…but can you chain projects? So, make a 256 step sequence and then open a new one and create another 256 step sequence and then chain them together?

That would make it good for me.

That updated sample-flip workflow looks really good. Even noobs can get to sample-flipping right away, so well done there.

Lot of great stuff going on here on this new version. Too bad about the synth engines, but some people love the OG Circuit Nova-based synths, so YMMV.

I think it should certainly count as an alternative!

I still realy like my Vanilla Circuit, it’s a great little couch jambox. This looks like a nice little upgrade but not worth it for me since I have a 707. I’m probably a lot more interested in what the Rhythm will offer depending on samplemangling capabilities.

I just enjoyed the drum tracks on the old circuit…always used the synth tracks as midi tracks so I’m fine with it…can we use the non midi tracks as extra midi tracks now…that would be 4 synths which would be better. Just hoping we can chain sequences together…or projects, whatever they are called.

Came across this video where he lists some Circuit Rhythm specs.
240 seconds of samples
8 sample tracks
Flip Samples Chromatically
Sample Auto Slice
Resample

FX:
Beat Repeat
Vinyl Sim
Phaser
Reverser
Gator
Auto Filter
Digital Lo-fi

Well if they made a groove box with a Summit synth engine and sample playback that would be quite the beast.

if that is it on the rhythm then all elektron would need to do is add sample slicing and resample to the digitakt (already can) and the model samples to stave off my desire for it

Hmm, maybe that’s “enough” for the low number of 64 sample slots per project.

The Tracks is 60 seconds, which at its native specs of 16bit, 48khz mono, is under 6MB of RAM. So the Rhythm has less than 48MB of RAM (assuming its stereo).

Have you tried the Octatrack?
Not being “that guy” but it can do all that and 100x more things as well. And it should, for the price difference.

The most recent thing it has done for me is killed my Circuit GAS

yeah but I don’t think novation are trying to compete with the octa t I’m thinking they are trying to compete with the digitakt, and I don’t think from the look of those listed features that they are going far enough… if that’s all they got, I wouldn’t be swayed from my digitakt and I would think that it would just give elektron even more incentive to just add sample slicing to the dt

I was hoping for streaming being there is a SD card though 240 could work.

Edit: 200 more than my beloved PO-33.

They’ll definitely have to “punch up” with ferocity to compete with a device that costs customers twice as much and has twice as many tracks when you factor in the very capable MIDI side.

As was I but 9 times out of 10 that I hope for that, I am let down. :expressionless:

Can you imagine the size of such a thing?!? I love it.

Would be like Novation’s Tempest.

I really wish more companies would aim for high end grooveboxes as mentioned.
it’s pretty much just elektron in that sector.

German gearnews say Circuit Rhythm is coming summer 2021. They also say no synth, no midi tracks, only samples. Mono and stereo samples, resampling, grid fx.

Oh come on. I’ve seen a hipster pressing randomly on this new circuit, but this kid that’s been blasting circuit videos like no other has been left dry? Shame on you Novation. :stuck_out_tongue:
