Screens please! Or am I just getting old? I’ve got the circuit monostation but I can’t be doing with cryptic interfaces. Even a small OLED or LCD ala M:S etc would be great.

I am definitely old and if you need a screen on something to use it properly I need to put my reading glasses on!

Tracks is very usable without a screen, the only place I sometimes think it would be useful is naming projects and patches…but it’s sort of refreshing just auditioning sounds with no preconceptions.

For what it is, and what it costs…it works. I can use my Tracks without a screen, and that has benefits…I couldn’t use my MPC or Tracker without the big screens, but sometimes that feels like I may as well be on a laptop or iPad, the Tracks is all bang, poke and twist tactile instrument!

It wont have that going on the online images.

It’s certainly a bit weird. Initially I assumed it was a performance or optimization issue with the chips many of these devices use - it tends to be smaller / cheaper devices that are doing a lot of multifunction tasks - but I don’t know how much extra oomph stereo actually requires over mono. I guess it makes displaying and editing waveforms easier, especially on smaller screens.

I also wonder if there’s a cultural element in there - interfacing with modular has become a common feature, and that’s still largely a mono world. And it’s increasingly common for music to be listened to on what are effectively mono devices - though all these devices have stereo processing and outputs, and headphones remain an important feature, especially with ‘dawless’ gear. We still have two ears, thankfully, but is there a movement towards thinking in mono?

I dunno, but it’s interesting and occasionally frustrating. Then again, I get irritated when I have to bring a mono source into a stereo device, like getting a monosynth into an SP-404. Some people are never happy.

I think after Elektron did it that everybody else decided they could get away with it…
:bomb:

hopefully it will start to trend back the other way when elektron releases their new flagship

To me, stereo sampling makes sense only if you provide tools to rework the stereo field. I can’t stand being stuck with a stereo balance that is not mine.

what kind of tools?

Ah the readers… started with my mams cast off +1’s and I’m now on +3’s…it’s a slippery slope :see_no_evil:

Something like the OT spatializer, for example.

If mono sampling, something like the Digitakt that lets you choose which side you wanna sample, or if you want to sum the sides.

Anyone got an idea what the memory and ram will be on the rhythm?

Am I missing something on the SP-404 comparisons? How can the CR replace the SP workflow with only 240 seconds of sample memory?

For me, I never used or wanted the 404 for long samples. I never use long samples When I make that comparison, I’m mostly thinking about the fx and resampling and all that.

Agree, I think the comparison is more about feature set than workflow. 404 ish features with a useable sequencer would be awesome. Though, reminder to self, I do not need another sampler.

Is the tracks the better choice over the Launchpad Pro MK3? I was thinking that Tracks has a synth engine and can do two MIDI tracks and has a lot of similarities with the Launchpad. I do not need Ableton compatibility.

I have the Circuit Tracks and have owned a LP Pro MK3. If you don’t need the Ableton functionality a lot of the launchpad pro mk3 can be mimiced with the Circuit Tracks as their sequencers are almost the same. I prefer having the 8 knobs of the Circuit as opposed to the extra pads of the LP as I’m not a big of fan of the LP fader mode although that is implemented well. I map the knobs of the MIDI tracks in Studio One and I find that works well. Often I map them to match the parameters on the Circuit itself and you can map the synth 1 and 2 tracks as well. It would be nice to have banks of the mappable knobs on the midi tracks though!

Jun 22 is apparently the launch date for the Rhythm.
Youtubers already have their hands on one so things will be interesting.
