Novation Circuit Rhythm and Circuit Tracks

You can… but it will only be mono, not poly… I’ve used track 8 to sequence my mono synths-you can play other synths poly, but only sequence mono

It is a steal for £269 I think. I’m annoyed as I bought a few weeks ago for £330…

Yeah, the MIDI works like the Model: Samples. The tracks can all send notes but they’re not dedicated tracks so you’re sacrificing an internal track if you want to use one to sequence other gear. Also, like the Samples, you can use it as a keyboard for another instrument and play chords and what not. But you can only record mono sequences.

It works pretty well. If you scroll up a bit, in the videos where I’ve got it sat next to the Skulpt, the Rhythm is controlling it on track 8.

Take the plunge….I did. Coming on Monday, and for £269.99 it’s a steal.

Thanks Calc, really appreciated this!

Is it possible to bypass the sequencer and just loop a pad, like SP404 workflow?

Short answer is yes. It is. But it’s different.

I’ll give you the long answer too because why not.

Unlike the SP, the Rhythm works in tracks. So it’s more a matter of setting a track to loop samples. But you can select what sample you want to use for each track. And if you go to the drum pad view you’ll be able to play all of the tracks at once. You’ll also have access to note repeats there.

If you want to work this way you’ll only have access to the 8 samples you chose at any given time. But you can simply hold down the sample you want to loop and play the other pads.

One hiccup here is that you can’t access the fx from the drum pad view. You can access track parameters and the master filter though.

I think resampling using the sequencer to loop a sample is a better option because you’ve got more to work with.

For one, you can play from the sample page. From the sample page you’ve got access to all of your samples. However, these are track pages. The tracks are monophonic. So you can only play one sample at a time. Hence needing the sequencer to loop your sample.

Another interesting option is playing from the gate and velocity pages. The Rhythm can do a not as good version of parameter locking but it comes with a better version of trig preview. I made a video about using this feature as a workaround for a scale mode if you scroll up a bit.

That video was about using this page to record into the sequencer. However, if you’re resampling, you’ve got way more options. Most of a track’s parameters can be edited on a per step basis. You can use the motion recording to edit 16 steps with everything from changes in the start point to the filter cutoff, whatever you want. And you can just play those from the velocity or gate pages.

If I was using the resample method, this is the route I’d go.

Cool, thanks for taking the time to reply.

My use case would be ambient noises, at different, out of sync tempos. Sounds like the Rhythm wouldn’t be ideal if you need to hold the pad

I picked one up for £255 (deliver free to UK) from Thomann in the 25% off BF Sale: looking forward to getting it. I already have a Tracks so the workflow should be very similar…

Hi all, if I wanted to use an external sequencer to control the rhythm, let’s say and analog four, what control do i have over the rhythm? Do i just have access to the 8 tracks? E.g. can I play 8 tracks at once but sacrifice sample flipping?

I’ve had a couple of hours with the Rhythm, and the lasting impression is one of fun. The Circuit workflow comes easily to me as I had an OG, but the Rhythm is so fast, intuitive, and that word again, fun. The sampling and slicing workflow is a joy, and I think that’s where it shines.

I’ve no doubt musicians far better than me will be-able to build full songs and sets on the Rhythm. At the moment I’m just making quick 4 bar loops and using mutes and grid FX to live jam full tracks. It’s a truly inspirational jamming machine.

As for features I’d like to see, I think they have already been covered on this thread, but are worth repeating (I see CALC peruses this forum :upside_down_face:) -

  • Timestretch (would be super handy for loops)
  • Ability to change grid effects parameters without using Components
  • Ability to delete Packs directly on the unit
  • Components for IPAD

Is it class compliant? As in, if I plug in an iPad can just resample without an additional cable?

Really need workflow hack…going to have to test this out on my setup. Thanks for this. :facepunch:t4: :tm:

Mine just arrived today from the recent sale. I notice that the pads are not uniformly colored (led hue), they vary slightly between each other, f.ex: in sample view the top 16 should be light blue (dim or bright). For me they range between turquoise and blue (picture below). Is this normal?

I don’t understand why the Tracks has a scale mode, but this has been left off the Rhythm.

Did you have to pay any import duty?

This sounds amazing. Love what you pulled off here.

Yeah abit of a strange choice. Maybe because the key depends on what you sample in?

Thanks…but the video isn’t me…it’s from the creator of the sample pack.

I don’t think so (it hasn’t arrived yet) I think its all fully included with Thomann as they are VAT registered and have a UK address
