Novation Circuit Rhythm and Circuit Tracks

I think the Polyend Tracker can do that type of thing, but the Circuit cannot.

thanks, yes the tracker can do it, but it is hard to find the right step to put your PC message so that DT and MD change pattern on the next bar.

The issue there might be on the Elektron side of things. It’s not something I know much about but I know folks have issues changing patterns over MIDI in general, especially when the tracks are different lengths

It’s weird though, I have a live setup where my digitone is the brain (it should have been the tracker but for now it’s not possible due to what I explained earlier). I’ve never had any problem sending PC from my digitone to my MD.

So here’s another little jam on the Rhythm. This is a collection of ideas that might become an EP or a live set or nothing at all. Haven’t decided yet. Only half a pack used for this, all samples are my own and most samples are chains that I’ve sliced up and just used differently in different patterns -

Damn this is good…would’ve never guessed this was all done on a rhythm!

Thank you :slightly_smiling_face::pray: I even have 72 seconds of sample time to spare. Now what to do with those? :face_with_monocle::slightly_smiling_face:

More cowbell of course

Played in reverse, pitched down and up on a per step basis and sliced up of course :stuck_out_tongue:

nice exploration of textures and sonic territory…I love how things just kind of emerge from the ether throughout. :facepunch:t4: :tm:

I wonder if we’ll ever get Audio over USB on these new Circuits…oh to dream…

novation loves for us to dream…

Thank you :slightly_smiling_face::pray:

Yeah, but I find what’s on board is surprisingly efficient to get a decent mix out of this thing.

But really, the Rhythm does feel like a work in progress more than even the original Circuit ever did.

very nice!

Thank you

Novation told somewhere this is impossible, since hardware design does not support this feature, so it can’t be added via firmware update.

It’s very common for embedded audio systems to have separate subsystems for audio and management / control. This can mean that the bit that does the MIDI / USB / UI / networking might not have access to the PCM stream.
My experience is things like set top boxes, but I expect the same is true of synths unless they are more of a “Linux PC in a box” like an MPC where it seems more likely to be possible.

Yeah, I don’t mind the non-USB audio thing, hasn’t even occurred to me.

I’m okay with eight tracks, mono samples, the onboard fx are good for widening the mix if not great as reverbs or delays themselves, the filters are just a plethora of sweet spots and the start - end points for tweaking, slicing and such, also great. And the sample workflow is killer. Damn, it’s fast to just get something sampled and going, especially if you already got triggers in place and use the Circuit Rhythm as a live looper. Once you start making your own grid FX and combine them, you got plenty going to not want for more there either.

What’s aching more and more, though -
No stereo samples or stereo sampling. I’m okay with the memory limit, I actually quite like the natural limitations of the Packs system. But given that the Rhythm seems to be generous in headroom and can really sound pretty great just on its own, my stereo samples are crying.

Scene switches in the Mix view reset the patterns. Why, oh why, in such a free form, spirited kit, do you not let patterns run free across scenes?

And streaming, of course. But you knew I’d say that. Since the Rhythm allows for longer recordings than the 32-sec one slot limit by chaining several slots together, it’s already something going on there.

And sequenced grid fx, too, please, Novation.

@Calc I know you’re reading this, I don’t expect any reply to this or you guys to comment, I just want to let you know that as a happy Rhythm owner that’s already very productive on this kit, these are on my wishlist - a list I don’t expect you to consider, I just want to send it your way as parts of the Grand Resources Priority Puzzle

I think it would make a lot of sense as well, especially for the Tracks and the vision they seem to have for the device and it’s place in the market.
They seem to want to push it as a central hub for a live set, so being able to easily incorporate, for example, an iPad into the set up seems like an obvious choice to me to me.
Part of me thinks they’re holding off on doing so as it might eat into sales of Scarlet audio interfaces.
Another thing that I would love to see, but i know is unlikely, would be for them to add USB midi host capability. Imagine if you could use the circuit to sequence your synths and ipad, and then plug in a Launch Control XL and use the faders and knobs to control the internal mixer, or send CCs to a device over DIN. That would be a game changer, and It would be worth buying for that alone in my opinion.

I know it was a popular opinion when the first Circuit was around, but it does feel like they’re warming up to a Pro version of this concept.

Hi all, trying to use midi thru on my rhythm to trigger my syntakt as I’ve got my db-01 receiving midi on the midi out.

When I had my syntakt attached to the midi out prior, it would start the patterns in the ST just by clicking play on my circuit. Is this still possible via the midi thru?
