OctaEdit - Octatrack Software Editor and Librarian [ OSX / Windows ]

Fantastic work! And perfectly timed as well. My CF card just got maxed so I need to tidy up a bit. A perfect opportunity for some quality time with OctaEdit.

What colour scheme would you prefer? See those little colour boxes in the Options module

Woot

Really looking forward to your feedback, very interested to hear what you have to say.

Iā€™m available via messaging / Skype / whatever if you need any assistance.

B and W is sick IMO!

That just looks amazing Rusty , seriously great work and I hope itā€™s all it seems to be.

Any idea of date yet pal? Do you have a PDF guidebook we can get hold of beforehand or it or is it self explanatory?

incredibly good work Rusty.

Besides being a superb editor, it is great for building your mental image of the extent of OTā€™s capabilities to make the OT more intuitive to use.

Looking forward to some heavy roadtesting now that it is so full of features!

People can change it how they feel, we all march to the beat of a different drum, who am I to judge?

Today, tomorrowā€¦ (next year?)

200 page manual, work in progressā€¦ this forum is shit, so go to the OctaEdit forums and grab it thereā€¦

Geez no, I donā€™t even know whats going on. :stuck_out_tongue:

I take it that means you got a hold of the latest version?

Iā€™m not, I think Iā€™ve created a monsterā€¦ :zonked:

Iā€™ve got some, um, interesting stuff lined upā€¦ ping me a message if you want to know more.

yes, Iā€™m on 0300 ā€¦ no buggy issues so far!

You just havenā€™t found them yet! :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Iā€™m up to 303, added / finetuned some error handling around Set/Project loading.

Some things for your consideration:

 • Current build is v0.0.303

 • If youā€™re expecting everything to be moonbeams and bunny rabbits, and there to be no bugs, well, now is not the time to jump in. Wait until things settle down first.

 • I would expect new builds to come fast and furious based on feedback, bug reports etcā€¦ so, if you donā€™t like the thought of multiple builds / installs in a week, again, best to wait.

 • Back your Sets/Projects up. There is a risk things will get corrupted, and if they do, I canā€™t help you. Hasnā€™t exactly happend yet, but that is your concern / problem not mine.

 • There has been lots of changes, Iā€™ve had to rewrite core parts of my engine, so lots of new bugs.

 • The Manual is still being finalised, currently at 195 pages, eek!

 • Back your Sets/Projects up.

 • There is a massive amount of stuff going on underneath the hood, and Iā€™ll probably tweak a fair bit of it based on feedback and feature requests.

 • I need to fix up a lot of the error handling, and message stuff etc, so, yeah, that part is fairly clunky.

 • I strongly advise you to back your Sets/Projects up, and have a play around with OctaEdit in a ā€œtest environmentā€ using test sets / projects; to get a feel for everything, be comfortable with how things work, the different modules and so forth, rather then affecting that killer live set youā€™ve been working on for hours/days/weeks/months/years/ice ages.

 • Like any software or hardware, you need to mitigate your risks. You donā€™t install the latest beta version of insert DAW software here on your laptop, or update the OS of your insert hardware here half an hour before a gig, so why would you mess around with your killer live set in OctaEdit just before hand?

 • There is forums over at http://octaedit.com/forum/

 • You are going to get the best response on the forums, because well, its my forum and I donā€™t have to be chasing stuff and things all over the interwebs.

 • Support? Generally available 18 hours a day, seven days a week. Forums / Chat / Skype / Phone / Whatever you need.

 • Feature requests? Love to hear them, see if I havenā€™t already thought of them. Iā€™ve got a massive pipeline that I need to work throughā€¦

 • Back your Sets/Projects up. I did mention that didnā€™t I?

To clarify

Sick means great Rusty, no offence meant obviously

Itā€™s cool, Iā€™m down with the kids

No offence taken at all obviously.

Just if someone wnats a lime green colour scheme, who am I to judge?

Soā€¦ after a lot of head scratching, a few thousand cups of coffee, and 27 lines of codeā€¦ the prophecy becomes reality.

Cat food incoming!

Damn, looks like great editor/library softwareā€¦ But $99?? I was expecting this to be like $50 max. Not going to be able to afford to pick it up for a while. I know Rusty has busted his ass getting this to release stage, and I wanna throw some cat food over there, but I think this is over priced for an editor/librarianā€¦ Seems like a lot of OT users have a ton of money to throw down on hardware etc so Iā€™m sure thereā€™ll be customers but that price tastes kinda high to me. Maybe the price could be lowered pretty dramatically for a trimmed down LE version with only the basic copy/paste functionality? For us peasants

Elektron could be doing a simple editor/librarian themselves for free like other companiesā€¦ Doesnā€™t have to be as full featured as rustyā€™s (excellent) software. Just something that enables users like myself that struggle to find $99 to reach that buried copy/paste functionality etc. Tbh thatā€™s all I really need/want from editor as I donā€™t want to find myself slowly becoming attached to software that makes me spend too much OT related time on a laptop. Though I can certainly see there are A TON of benefits to all the possibilities and conveniences of Octa edit. Great job BTW rusty. Iā€™m sure Iā€™ll buy it at some point, just not going to be able to in near future, which has kinda made me think about it more than I have before and reach conclusion that elektron are a little disappointing to not be offering something similar but simplified for free, especially now with the OT being available so longā€¦ Probably naive but Iā€™m still hoping for some of this functionality (deeper copy/paste options, reverse/inverse lfo/arpeggio etc) to be added ITB in a firmware updateā€¦

About creating a Library template to store that configuration?

The effort is in doing the inital setup, after that recycling that template is a snip.

I just donā€™t have time to do it right now as deep in code review for full releaseā€¦ means checking every single line of code, control and parameter to try and deliver a bug free experience.
Yep just a public release of whats been advertised, would be nice

wells and bistles later
As requested.

Wells and bistles included.

Purchased! For $99 this will significantly cut down the time I use cutting slices in long files.
The only feature left for me is an arranger manager. Being able to copy and paste entire songs (multiple rows with many details) will cut so much time from my set organisation!

Great work, Iā€™m so glad you kept working on this. A while ago I was worried it may not come out

Woohaa

Rusty your are my hero!

King of the Hill :+1:

Yeah! Getting this later today! Fist bump!! :+1:
