Massive congrats Rusty! On time and on budget no less.
Simply amazing.
Bravo, Rusty
This is mankind, internet & technology! I am very happy to see such things happen. Kudos to Rusty!
To quote my old pal Neil Young: Rust never sleeps!
Way to go Rusty! OctaEdit is the catās ass (send him cat food peeps)!!
Somehow, I didnāt get the drift from the website or initial postings that this was a Windows app. Now I see that the Mac install information is a Wine installation. Great change in joyfulness.
congratulations Rustyā¦ the 8edit is great
I know everyone is in a different station in life, but the way I look at it this - what is your hourly rate? i.e. - how much do you charge per hour for your services? If the OT is something you use a lot and the functionality of OctaEdit saves you a lot of time over the course of a week/month/year, the additional $49 (99 - the 50 you would spend) would be more than made up by freeing up your time to do other activities that you can bill out.
I do agree though - if you only need basic functions like cut and paste once every month or so, $99 is a bit of a luxury purchase in that regard and slogging through the old manual way is certainly more cost effective.

I donāt wanna be āthat guyā bitching about the price. Rusty has done an amazing job and I can see a lot of people being justifiably happy to pay 99 bucks for it. Just wish I could afford to purchase it too! but Iām a full time dad with 3 kids under 3yrs old which my girlfriendās income covers. I got my OT on finance (worry about it in 12 monthsā¦). Iāve had to put music kinda on hold as far as tours and releases go and Iām just writing/recording right now. So I donāt have an hourly rate etc to bring in to the equation. Just for my needs it seems expensive. Itās like nearly 10% of what I paid for the OT. Itās not like JJOS on Mpc, which totally changes the hardware. And is only a few bucks more than 8edit. From my point of view I just canāt justify the purchase right now, which basically pissed me off WWould love to see Elektron do a simplified free version. My mininova for example has a great editor/librarian free from novation. No way I would have considered paying a lot of cash for it, though I do realise that OT editor helps out in waaaaaay more useful/time saving ways. Iāll pick up 8edit eventually. Hope you guys enjoy it and rusty does well for all the work he put in.

At the risk of sounding insensitiveā¦your situation is not Rustyās problem. His problem is now to market and profit from a project in which he invested serious time, time which could have been used for other things to have made him money instead.
The last 5-7 years have been extremely hard on me financially. Iāve managed to still put together a pretty decent home studio in that time, thanks to a lot of saving and selling. If Iād had kids Iād probably be exactly where you are now. So I can get it, and that means compromises and sacrifices. Consequently, you might just have to set aside $10-20 a week until you can buy Octaedit.
In the meantimeā¦youāre a really new user to the Octatrack. I feel like Iāve seen a lot of posts from you on the forum that suggest trying to run before you can walk. I donāt know why you feel a compulsive need to buy OctaEdit immediately, but I would strongly suggest just slowing your roll and learning the machine as it is. Itās not like the Octatrack is useless without the editor or anything-plenty of us have managed to cope without it until now, after all.

Like I said, I will be purchasing, just gonna take couple months to free up the $. Hence my wishing there was a cheaper alternative that just did the basic copy/paste stuff Iād find useful nowā¦
I know Iām pretty new to OT but Iām sat on an LP of OT material now and itās scattered over approx 25 projects that came together kind of aimlessly while I learnt different aspects of the machineā¦ I need to consolidate some stuff and put the record togetherā¦ It can wait tho, hopefully get some better material come along in the meantime
I only mentioned kids situation etc in reply to the post mentioning octa edit saving time that I could use to earn moneyā¦ Thatās not really the case for me right now. So I know that stuff isnāt rusty or anyone elseās concern, I was just sayingā¦
P. S. I wasnāt trying to put a negative light on Rustyās achievement. Today must be a pretty big day for him after all the work put in. Congrats! Like I said, the software looks amazing and I hope he does well out of it. Iāll be buying asap! Just bummed me out when I saw the price was higher than Iād expected and I spewed on the Internetā¦
Iāll nip this in the bud straight away and say this isnāt going to happen for the same reasons why I wonāt provide a demo version.
Iām not prepared to double / triple my workload by developing and supporting two / three seperate programs, Full, LE, Demo, and Iām not going to cannibalize potential OctaEdit sales by doing so either.
One and Done.
How long is it going to take to sort out those 25 projects manually? Lets say an hour eachā¦? That fair?
How long is it going to take to sort out those 25 projects in OctaEdit? Probably an hour in total.
So, US$99 / 25 Projects is $4 per Project / Hour. Thats nearly half the US minimum wage of US$7.25.
You wouldnāt work for 25 hours for $99 would you? I know I wouldnāt.
So youāve just justified immediate ROI on a purchase of OctaEdit within the first hour.
The first hourā¦ now think about what other benefits you get over the course of the next hour, week, month, year, ice age.
Now you, or someone else might be time rich, and cash poor, so the equation might differ, and you have plenty of spare time to sit there and diligently write notes, manaully copy stuff, manually ensure all settings are correct, perform multiple A/B tests etc, and thats cool.
For someone else the equation is totally different, we are all in different stages / positions / scenarios of life.
As Iāve said in this thread before, all I can do is offer a product for sale at a price, and it is up to each individual to decide for themselves how the cost / benefit equation works out.
Will be buying.
Thanks for all your efforts, Rusty.
You get 18/7 support as well, so if you need any help, support, questions, training, someone to talk to, whatever, just hit me up, Iām here to help.

An hour to sort out a project? More like a few minutes. And Iām not time-rich by any meansā¦I just know how to navigate quickly and effortlessly on my OT.
I admire your work but most cats who own (and actually know how to use their OT) will not need this software.
Aesthetically the editor is severely dull looking. I just gotta be honest with you man; It isnāt worth 99.00. Iām not bitching because I had no intention to get it from day 1, but I was interested to see the final result.
If you wanna play with the big boys, you gotta play fair dude.
Give it a nice facelift and make it look modern. If you think graphics donāt matter, think again.
Good luck!
It is so cool that 3rd party software like this exists. Great job Rusty! Very very cool!

I like the old school retro look of OE, because that to me says āthis software is 100% bullshit free!ā (and Iāve been coding since 1976, so I know what Iām talking about)
Donāt get me wrong, I love a āmodernā look, as long as thereās substance behind it (like Overbridge), but Iāll take substance over looks any day of the week (except when Iām drunk in the pub of course!)
Good luck wrestling with 25 projectsā¦
Iām glad I dont know as much as most cats, ignorance is bliss.
Thanks Rustyā¦I knew you would made it!
My best hug,
GG
